Volume I was released onto Torrent sites on March 2, 2008, and is released under a Creative Commons license, available for free distribution. The entire collection of Ghosts I-IV is available from the official NIN website for $5.

The track names on the Ghosts albums follow a non-conventional format and do not have traditional titles. They are numbered 1 through 36 followed by the word Ghosts and the disc (each disc contains 9 songs) they appear on is tacked onto the end in Roman numeral format.
