NHL Career
Zherdev was drafted fourth overall in the 2003 NHL Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets. He made his NHL debut that same year and played 57 games. During the 2004-05 NHL Lockout, Zherdev played for the CSKA Moscow in the Russian Super League before returning to the NHL in 2005. Zherdev started the 2006-07 season in the Russian Super League after he was unable to agree to a contract with the Blue Jackets. On September 28, 2006, Zherdev renewed his contract with the Blue Jackets and joined the team for the remaining 71 games of the season.
