• The Nike Plus iPod is a system which tracks your workout by monitoring your distance, pace, time and calories burned while allowing you to listen to music. On September 9, 2008, at the Apple Let's Rock Event, Steve Jobs announced that starting with the iPod Touch 2G and the redesigned iPod Classic, the Nike+ system would be built into the device.
  • Operation

To use the system, first, place the sensor in your shoe to track your movements. You then place the Nike receiver into your iPod Nano which will store all of your data without any wires. Upon finishing your run, remove the Nike receiver and plug your iPod into your computer via USB to download your data. You are then able to track all of your runs and set up goals.
  • Buying Guide

The Nike plus iPod works in two different parts. The sensor is placed in the shoe and the workout information is recorded and sent to the iPod which then periodically alerts the runner to information through the headphones. Nike also has a similar device named the Nike Sportband which operates on the same principles, but uses a sportband to display the information digitally. It also has a removable USB card which can be attached to a home computer, and works with compatible programs to analyze a workout. Both systems require a reasonable comfort level with computer programs and technology.
