  • Tim Burton's 1993 film The Nightmare Before Christmas uses stop-motion animation to tell the story of Pumpkin King Jack Skellington's attempt to steal Christmas in order to escape the doldrums of the daily Halloween celebrations of Halloween Town.

    Originally released in 1993, it was remastered in digital 3D for theatrical release in in 2006 and has been re-released on DVD shortly before Halloween each year since.

    The Nightmare Before Christmas was nominated for a "Best Visual Effects" Academy Award and the soundtrack, which features ten songs, was nominated for a Grammy.

    Virtually all reviewers agreed that the film was visually stunning, but some felt that the musical numbers were too plentiful and overly contrived. Overall, reviews of the film are more positive than negative and The Nightmare Before Christmas has remained a popular holiday film since its release.
