The stop-motion animated film The Nightmare Before Christmas was nominated for an Academy Award for "Best Visual Effects" and a Grammy for best soundtrack. It has since become a popular holiday classic and has spawned a variety of Nightmare Before Christmas themed toys, clothing and other merchandise.
Remastered in digital 3D for theatrical and DVD release in 2006, DVD copies have been re-released shortly before Halloween each year since.
The film illustrates the tale of Pumpkin King Jack Skellington's misguided attempt to bring the joy of Christmas to Halloween Town to break the monotony of their daily Halloween celebrations.
