A night light is a low wattage lamp that is used to illuminate a darkened area, especially at night when it is helpful to navigate through rooms. Besides being used to navigate through dark rooms, they are also used to mark emergency exits. Although many use incandescent bulbs, with newer technology, many are now available using electroluminescence, neon lamps, or LEDs, which use less than 1 watt.
History
Night lights were originally made of metal cups and were lite by a small candle. They are now made to plug into the wall and use a low watt light bulb.
