On March 26, 2009, news agencies reported that Nicole Kidman had joined the cast of Woody Allen's untitled next film. Kidman first garnered national attention for her work in the thriller Dead Calm and the box office hit Days of Thunder where she met future husband Tom Cruise. She earned critical acclaim for her performance in the 1995 film To Die For, for which she received a Golden Globe award.

She later co-starred in Stanley Kubrick's final film, Eyes Wide Shut, opposite soon to be ex-husband Tom Cruise. She followed up that performance with her work in the critically acclaimed films, [[Moulin Rouge!]] and The Hours, for which she received an Academy Award for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf.
