Lidstrom represented Sweden in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. He led the team to the gold medal, after defeating Team Finland in the final game. Late in a game between the Los Angeles Kings and the Detroit Red Wings, Nicklas Lidstrom scored his 1,000th career point. Lidstrom shot the puck towards the net, allowing Henrik Zetterberg to deflect it in for the power-play score. Later, the milestone was announced in the stadium and the crowd stood cheering for Lidstrom for over 90 seconds.
