Professional baseball outfielder Nick Markakis plays Major League Baseball for the Baltimore Orioles.

Baseball Career
After attending Woodstock High School in Woodstock, New York, he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds. Declining a contract, he would instead go on to star as an outfielder and pitcher at Young Harris College. In 2003 the Orioles drafted Markakis in the first round (seventh overall selection). After a few years in the Orioles farm system, Markakis made his major league debut on April 3, 2006. Markakis would hit hit his first big league home run two days later, in just his second game as a pro. In his first full season with the Orioles, Markakis hit .291 batting average, 16 home runs, 112 runs batted in and finish sixth in American League Rookie of the Year voting. His contract was renewed by the Orioles on March 4, 2008.
