NFL Week 6 is the sixth week of the National Football League season. The sixth week of the year marks an important milestone in the year, as it is the trade deadline. No further trades may be made after this point.
Rarely are any superstar players dealt at the deadline. One such exception was a blockbuster deal made in 1987 involving three teams. The deal, which took place on Halloween, October 31, 1987, featured the Buffalo Bills, the Indianapolis Colts and the Los Angeles Rams.
In the deal, the Rams dealt future Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson to the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts dealt the rights to future star linebacker Cornelius Bennett to the Bills. In exchange, the Rams acquired running back Greg Bell from Buffalo, along with their first round selections in the 1988 and 1989 NFL Draft plus the Bills second round selection in 1989. They also acquired running back Owen Gill from the Colts along with the Colts first round selection in 1988 and second round selections in 1988 and 1989.http://www.profootballhof.com/history/decades/1980s/eric_dickerson.aspx
2010 NFL Week 6 News
The NFL schedule for week six features three divisional contests, four inter-conference games and seven games pitting two teams from the same conference.
NFL Week 6 is the sixth week of the regular season for the National Football League with 28 of the league's 32 teams in action. The Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals all have their bye week scheduled for week six.
The games will take place on Sunday, October 17 and Monday, October 18, 2010. Three of the games are divisional match ups, including a long standing AFC North rivalry when the Cleveland Browns travel to Heinz Field to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. A geographical rivalry comes to fruition as well when the Oakland Raiders do battle with the San Francisco 49ers. One other game of interest will have the New England Patriots looking to avenge a playoff loss that ended their season at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens.
2009 NFL Week 6 News
Week 6 was a busy one around the NFL in 2009. The Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers all had bye weeks, leaving fourteen games in action.
The New England Patriots obliterated the Tennessee Titans by a score of 59-0. Elsewhere, the Buffalo Bills prevailed over the New York Jets in overtime, and the Jacksonville Jaguars dispatched the winless St. Louis Rams in the same fashion. Other games saw the Houston Texans defeat the Cincinnati Bengals, the Green Bay Packers blank the Detroit Lions, the Minnesota Vikings edge the Baltimore Ravens and the New Orleans Saints keep their perfect record intact with a thrashing of the New York Giants.
The Carolina Panthers were victorious over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Kansas City Chiefs knocked off the Washington Redskins, the Pittsburgh Steelers upended the Cleveland Browns, the Arizona Cardinals dispatched the Seattle Seahawks, the Oakland Raiders were victorious over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Atlanta Falcons defeated the Chicago Bears and on Monday Night Football, the Denver Broncos clipped the San Diego Chargers.
2008 NFL Week 6 News
Week six marked the third straight week during which several teams have their bye week. This means that the Bills, Chiefs, Steelers, and Titans did not play. The doubleheader belonged to FOX this week. For long time followers of the league, one of the games will sound weird: Baltimore at Colts. Another key contest featured the growing rivalry in the NFC South as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted to the Carolina Panthers. Also, Seattle and coach Mike Holmgren hosted his former team Green Bay in a rematch of 2007's NFC Division Round game. Speaking of rematches from 2007's post-season, the Sunday night contest involved a replay of the AFC Championship Game as the San Diego Chargers faced the New England Patriots, and on Monday in primetime, the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants traveled to Cleveland to face the Browns.
