New York state consists of more than just New York City and it's five burroughs. The state has many great vacation spots from its southwestern tip all the way to it's northeastern areas.
Though transportation around New York City is easy with public transportation, if one plans to get around the state it is recommended to rent a car as there are many places without public transportation. New York is one of two states in the US where one only needs to be 18 to rent a car. Be prepared with small bills and coins for the many toll roads, some cost as much as $8.00 (USD).
It is also possible to fly from White Plains Airport, Lagaurdia Airport and JFK Airport to many other points in the state, all of these airports are within one hour of New York City.
