Major Injuries Derail The 2009 Mets
The 2009 New York Mets were predicted to challenge the Philadelphia Phillies for the National League East division title. They played well in April and May and trailed the Phillies by just half a game on May 10 and were 28-21 at the end of May. But injuries started to take the toll on the Mets in June. All stars Jose Reyes, Carlos Delgado, Johan Santana and Carlos Beltran all missed significant time due to major injuries. Other key players to miss games due to injuries were David Wright, Billy Wagner and Alex Cora. A total of 20 players spent time on the disabled list at some point during the season and in total, Mets players spent 1,480 days on the disabled list, the most in the Major Leagues. The Mets finished the season with a record of 70 wins and 92 losses, their worst record since 2003 when they finished with 66 wins and 95 losses.http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap;_ylt=AidiMV7um3Gc70drp7y9Pwu4u7YF?gid=291004121&prov=ap&print=1
