Introduction
The goal of this walkthrough is to help the reader complete each of the eighty levels of New Super Mario Bros. It will also point out hidden shortcuts, locations of all the Star Coins, and will point out general tips to help the reader get through some of the tougher areas of the game.Controls and Mechanics
- The controls in New Super Mario Brothers are very simple, but require a great deal of finesse in order to truly master.
- Running and Momentum: Holding down the Y button will cause Mario to run. While running, you must take note that momentum is a huge aspect of NSMB. Mario cannot stop on a dime and when he jumps, he takes all of his forward momentum with him. What does this mean? It means that if you're running full speed and you try to jump on a small platform, you need to either jump immediately to the next platform or ground pound on the platform to kill your momentum, otherwise you will slide right off. Take your time with tricky platforming sections and don't rush through them.
- Jumping: Pressing the B or A buttons will cause Mario to jump. The longer you hold down the button, the higher he will jump.
- Ground Pound: Press B + Down on the D-Pad to execute a ground pound or butt stomp. Ground pounds are useful for dealing extra damage to enemies as opposed to just jumping on them, breaking through brick blocks, hitting ? Blocks from a different direction and breaking your momentum on a jump.
- Wall Jumps: When jumping against a wall, hold the D-Pad in the direction of the wall and then press A or B to perform a wall jump. This is an invaluable skill that takes a little getting used to, so practice it a bit until you feel more comfortable.
- Crouch Slide: There are times when if you are bigger than small Mario (Mario without a Mushroom,) you will have you use the crouch slide to make it through certain openings. To do so, simply get a running start and crouch to let your momentum take you through the gap.
Power Ups
- The power-up system in NSMB works like this: If you have nothing, a power-up block will give you a Mushroom; if you have a Mushroom, the block will give you a Fire Flower; and if you have a Fire Flower, the block will just give you another Fire Flower. Blue Shells, Tiny Mushrooms, Mega Mushrooms and Stars must be obtained from specific blocks.
- Mushroom: Obtaining a mushroom will cause Mario to grow to his regular size. If you get hit, you'll shrink down to small Mario.
- Fire Flower: Grabbing a Fire Flower will immediately make Mario bigger and will give Mario the ability to shoot fireballs. Press X or Y to shoot fire balls, but note that there cannot be more than two fireballs on screen at a time. If you get hit as Fiery Mario, you will remain as big Mario, but you will lose you fire power.
- Blue Shell: The blue shell will allow Mario to slide across the ground like a Koopa shell, breaking blocks and killing any enemy he runs into. To slide you can either run at high speed to automatically start sliding, or press down while running. To stop sliding, let go of the Y or X button. Be careful when using the Blue Shell as bumping in to a wall will cause you to reverse direction.
- Giant Mushroom: Grabbing a Giant Mushroom will, as you can probably guess, cause Mario to grow into a giant. While in this mode, Mario can run through enemies, pipes, blocks, and is impervious to any attack. The more destruction you cause, the more the meter at the top fills up and the more extra lives you receive once the power-up wears off.
- Tiny Mushroom: Tiny Mushrooms will cause Mario to shrink into Mini Mario. While in this form, Mario is faster, can jump higher and farther, can run on the surface of water, and most importantly, can enter through small openings and pipes that no other version of Mario can enter. The down side is that he can be killed with just one hit. Collecting any power-up (except the Star) will end this mode.
- Star: The Star will grant Mario temporary invulnerability in addition to giving him a spiffy little flip when he jumps.
Star Coins
- Star Coins essentially act as the game's currency. Every level contains three Star Coins. If you collect a Star Coin and you die, you must get the Star Coin again and beat the level to actually obtain the coin.
- These coins are used to unlock gates that let you travel to new levels or to one of the various shops.
World 1-1
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough World 1-1 (Time: 3:07)
- At the start of the level, proceed to the right and bump the three ? Blocks for some coins and a mushroom.
- Continue onwards, jump on the three brick blocks, and repeatedly hit the lone block at the top for a bunch of coins.
- As you proceed forward, smashing Goombas and jumping over pit falls, you'll find a lone ? Block that will contain a Giant Mushroom. Grab it to grow super huge and steamroll everything in your path. Be sure to get the first Star Coin that will be floating in the air.
- Be wary not to destroy the pipe after checkpoint while you're huge. Once you return to normal size, head back to that pipe and press down to enter a secret area.
- At the end of this secret area will be the second Star Coin.
- The third Star Coin will be stuck under three brick blocks that can be broken by use of a ground pound (B + Down).
- Continue heading right, jump up the block stairs and leap towards the flagpole to end the first level.
World 1-2
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough World 1-2 (Time: 1:55)
- The first ? Block here will contain a power up.
- If you want some extra coins, butt stomp through all of the blue brick blocks. One the last two blocks, hold down to crash through all of the blocks below to reach a hidden area with a lot of coins. Jump on the trampoline to exit.
- Jump on the blocks to reach the platform with the first Star Coin.
- The next ? contains a power up.
- Continue forward until you reach a Star Coin that is encased in a cage of blue blocks. Butt stomp through the top to claim your second coin.
- Go across the see-saw platform and jump on the middle four blue blocks to pound the top block and receive a bunch of coins and a mushroom.
- The next ? Block to your right contains a power up.
- Continue onwards, avoiding or setting ablaze the piranha plants that come out of the pipes.
- Jump on the ceiling to bypass some platforming segments until you reach another seesaw platform.
- Branching Path: If you use the seesaw to jump on to the ceiling, you will find another pipe along with the final Star Coin. Going this way will allow you to bypass World 1-3, enter an item shop and skip right to World 1 Tower.
- Continue to the right until you reach a pipe that will lead you to the end of level flagpole.
World 1-3
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough World 1-3 (Time: 1:24)
- The mushroom platforms here sway, so be wary of your momentum as you make your jumps.
- The first ? Block here will grant you a power up.
- You'll eventually find a spring that will cause you Mario to spin as he flies upwards and glides back down. Use it to reach a high green mushroom where you'll find another spring.
- Jump on the spring to reach a bouncy pink mushroom platform. Position yourself above the platform and press Down while spinning to cause Mario to come spiraling down. This will allow him to bounce up high enough to reach the first Star Coin
- Don't stop spinning yet. Continue to the right while gliding to find a trail of coins that will lead you to the second Star Coin.
- The ? Block below the red mushroom platform will contain a power up.
- Jump across the string of red mushrooms, making sure to grab the final Star Coin.
- Jump through the red ring to trigger 8 red coins to appear. If you manage to grab all eight, an extra life will fall down from the sky. Make sure that you're not over a pit when the life falls.
- Jump to the last red mushroom and wait until it tilts to the left to run and jump on to the flagpole to try and get an extra life by touching the top.
World 1-Tower
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 4 - World 1-Tower (Time 3:04)
- As any seasoned Mario vet knows, the Dry Bones you encounter here will fall apart when you jump on them, only to reassemble a couple of seconds later. Fireballs are ineffective as well, so you're best off just jumping on them and then ignoring their presence.
- The left ? Block will contain a power up and the right block holds a coin.
- Wait for the two gray blocks to separate and jump on to the block on the left.
- When the blocks above you pull apart jump on the block to the right.
- Jump on the right block for the next one.
- Jump on the left block for the next one.
- Finally jump on to the right block and then on to the blue platform.
- Jump up and proceed across the blocks when it's safe. Mario doesn't want to get smashed.
- Jump up again and wait until the top block comes down once. Run across when the smaller blocks go down.
- Jump up, knock out the Dry Bones, grab the power up from the ? Block and get the first Star Coin. Jump on it and then on to the next gray platform. From here, use your blue shell's ability to slide across the floor and break the blocks. Eventually you'll wind up at a secret end flagpole that will unlock the route to the World 5 warp cannon.
- Exit the room and jump on to the blue platform where the spiked blocks are.
- Jump on to the gray blocks as they protrude from the right to head upwards on to the next blue platform.
- Wait until all of the gray blocks separate, and then jump on to the next blue platform. When the gray blocks start to come together, jump to land on top of them. Use this method to reach the top and nab the last Star Coin.
- When you reach the green pipe, wait until the gray blocks separate before going into the pipe. The pipe will shoot you upwards and you will land on top of the blue platform.
- Before you enter the boss door, grab the power-up from the ? Block to your right.
- Enter the door to face the first boss.
World 1-4
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 5 - World 1-4 (Time 3:29)
- Butt Stomp the slope to slide down and take out all of the Goombas on the way.
- There will be a Koopa at the top of the next hill. Jump on him and kick his shell to the right to hit a ? Block with a power up. Be sure to avoid it on the way back.
- The ? Block at the bottom next to the green pipe contains a tiny mushroom. Use it to enter the small pipe to the left.
- Run across the water to get all of the coins then wall jump to reach the platform with the first Star Coin. Run back to collect more coins, then exit through the big pipe.
- Continue to the right until you reach three ? Blocks. The middle block contains a mushroom that will turn you back to normal size, but we don't want to grow yet. Continue all the way to the right until you reach a downward slope. Run down the slope, across the small gap, into a secret area where you can claim another Star Coin.
- Now hit the lone ? Block that you passed before to get a mushroom. Back track to the area with all of the brown brick blocks. At the bottom left of this structure there is a green pipe whose entrance is block by a block. Butt Stomp the block and enter the pipe.
- Don't grab the coins here yet. Head to the right and hit the last blue block to cause a P-Switch to appear. Hit the switch to cause all the coins to turn into blocks. Jump across the blocks to reach the third and final Star Coin.
- Now head back to the right until you reach the end flagpole.
World 1-5
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 6 - World 1-5 (Time 3:09)
- TIP: This level is all about the bouncy mushroom platforms. Press B right as you hit the platform to jump higher.
- Hit the ? Blocks here to find a coins and a power up.
- Use the above tip to reach the first Star Coin in plain sight.
- Jump on the red Koopa and throw his shell to the right to take out all of his friends wandering around on the pink platforms.
- Bounce your way to the right until you come across a pulley platform. Get used to these, as you'll be seeing them a lot in the future. When you stay on one side, it gets weighed down and causes the other side to rise. Stay on one side too long and it will fall.
- Pick up the second Star Coin on the tall red mushroom platform.
- On the third pulley platform, stay on the left platform for a little to let the right platform rise up enough so that you can enter the green pipe at the top.
- In this area, you can either ride the moving mushroom, or you can bounce across the bottom and collect all the coins you can. Whichever way you choose, your main goal is to snag the final Star Coin in the midst of a pattern of coins that form a mushroom. At the end of the section, fall down the pit to return to the main level.
- Continue to the right once you fall down to find a red coin ring. Once again, collect the eight red coins for a 1-Up mushroom.
- Bounce along to the right until you reach flagpole.
World 1-A
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 43 - World 1-A (Time 3:14)
- NOTE: This level is unlocked by going to the intersection after world 1-4 and paying 5 Star Coins to remove the sign below.
- Enter the pipe to start off the level.
- Hit the first ? Block for a power-up.
- Continue to the right, but stay in the middle of the screen as the stage scrolls so you can see what's coming up ahead.
- The sharks here swim in straight lines, so you should be able to easily avoid them just by staying out of their way.
- Hit the upcoming P-Switch for some extra coinage. It's not necessary though.
- After you make your way through the bouncy blobs, swim upwards and stay close to the ceiling to get the first Star Coin. If you wait too long, invisible blocks will make the coin much harder to obtain.
- Enter the next green pipe for the next Star Coin. Exit through the pipe on the right.
- Continue to the right and hit the power-up block for whatever power-up you desire.
- Be careful in this next section as the pipes have a tendency to blow you into a shark. Don't go over the pipes if you see incoming sharks.
- The next P-Switch will again give you a chance to rake in some coins for an extra life
- The final Star Coin will be on a small platform near the ceiling. If you're small Mario, you can simply swim through the opening on the left. Otherwise, you have to go around.
- Just a little further to the right and you'll reach the pipe that will end the level.
World 1-Castle
- IGN.com: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough Part 4 World 1-Small Castle (Time 1:49)
- Walk along the tightrope and then jump on to the next platform, making sure to avoid the fireball that jumps out of the lava.
- Continue to the right until you reach a gray block that sinks and rises from the lava. Don't worry; it won't go all the way down. Hit the block for a power up.
- Once you reach solid ground, stomp on the dry bones and wait until the spiked ceiling starts to rise.
- The ? Block just has a coin, so run past it, the next brick block and stop at the next break to wait for the ceiling to rise again.
- Stop at the next break, wait for the ceiling to fall and then wall jump to reach the first Star Coin.
- Once the ceiling rises again run to the right to return to more lava. Hit the ? Block here for a power up.
- As you continue to the right, you'll spot another Star Coin just above the lava. Wait a little and you'll find a small gray platform rise out of the lava, allowing you to safely jump on it and obtain the coin. Jump off immediately because this one actually will sink down into the lava.
- Proceed onwards, but pause when you reach the second tight rope. Go to the middle of the rope and jump as high as you can. You should see a hidden green pipe. Get yourself into the pipe to find the final Star Coin for this level.
- Continue across the two sinking platforms to reach the boss door.
World 1 Boss - Bowser
- Whoa there, it's like we're skipping to the main event already. Well whatever the case, Bowser is a piece of cake. There are three ways to win this, each of them easy.
- If you have a fire flower, you can give him a taste of his own medicine and simply plug him full of fireballs while avoiding his own.
- Otherwise you can jump on the elevator platform to jump over him and hit the red switch to destroy the bridge.
- Or you can run under him when he jumps and hit the switch that way.
- Once he's dead, Bowser Jr. will run off with Peach and you will give chase.
World 2-1
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 8 - World 2-1 (Time: 1:56)
- The second ? Block to your right contains a power-up. If it is a fire flower, use your fireballs to take out the Pokey that is blocking your way. Otherwise, jump over it by jumping on top of the ? Blocks.
- You'll soon be confronted by another Pokey. This time, hit the smiley block three times to create a column of blocks tall enough so that you can jump over the Pokey.
- You'll find your first Star Coin in between two normal coins. Jump to get it, but be careful not to bump into the Pokey.
- Jump on the rising platform and jump over the next Pokey once the platform reaches its peak.
- The next two Pokies will be on its own rising platform. When the platforms sink to their lowest, jump across.
- Grab the next Star Coin but be careful not to fall into the pit or hit the rising and falling Pokey on the platform.
- Jump over the next tall Pokey to reach the halfway marker. There will be a ? Block with a power up nearby which should give you a fire flower if you haven't gotten hit since the beginning of the level.
- The next couple of sections of the level simply consist of jumping from platform to platform while avoid the Pokies who could potential be transported by the moving platform at the bottom.
- Be sure to grab the last Star Coin on one of the low platforms.
- TIP: You probably noticed a tiny pipe at the end of the section. The only thing you'll find here is a little maze with a bunch of coins. It isn't worth going through the trouble of getting a tiny mushroom if you don't already have it.
- The next part can be a little tricky without a fire flower. What you have to do is jump to the middle column of elevator platforms when the platform with the Pokey is at its lowest so that you can jump over it. Once you clear it, enter the pipe.
- The middle brick block here has a P switch. Jump on it to make the coins change into bricks, which you can jump on to avoid the Pokey and reach the top of the end of level flagpole.
World 2-2
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 9 - World 2-2 (Time: 2:46)
- Grab the power-up from the ? block in front of you.
- Our favorite cloud riding baddie, Lakitu, makes his debut in this level. He will float around above and toss down Spinies to make your life very miserable. If you can hit him with a fireball or Koopa shell, you can actually kill the Lakitu and leave the cloud behind for you to ride. Jumping on him will make both the Lakitu and the cloud disappear.
- If you can, try to get Lakitu out of his cloud and ride it low and to the right until you see the orange platforms. There should be a trail of coins leading upwards that will bring you to the first Star Coin.
- Return down to the ground level and continue on. Be wary of the piranha plant in the green pipe.
- You should see the next Star Coin below a group of brick blocks. Ground pound through them to collect your prize.
- As you continue you'll find another piranha waiting for you in the red pipe.
- The ? Blocks in this next area all contain coins, so you can ignore them if you wish.
- The lone ? Block after that though will contain a power up.
- When you reach two pipes, one yellow and one green, enter the green pipe and hold up. The pipe will shoot you upwards into another pipe.
- In this area, enter both green pipes to be shot up into the final Star Coin of the level, as well as plenty of regular coins. Exit through the rightmost pipe when you're done.
- All that's left is to run across the mushroom and jump on the flagpole.
World 2-3
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 10 - World 2-3 (Time: 3:25)
- Enter the pipe and hold down to slide through all of the Koopas in the way.
- Head to the right, but before jumping down, wall jump to reach the platform above and the first Star Coin.
- Jump down through the manhole and enter the door. The ? Block here will contain a power-up.
- If you want some extra coins, jump down through the door pointing down. Otherwise, go past it and jump down the manhole.
- The ? Blocks above just contain two coins, so just ignore them and continue going forward.
- Slow down before you reach the door or you'll run right into the piranha plant. Once you go through jump on the left platform and take it around to get the second Star Coin.
- Head down to the bottom and continue right to enter another pipe.
- Proceed to the right, down the slide, and then right again across the shallow water.
- Hit the ? Switch to raise the water. Swim upwards and head into the opening in the ceiling to find an area with lots of coins to collect. Be fast or the water level will sink, causing you to hit the switch again.
- Branching Path: In this area with the bunch of coins, there is another ? Switch on the ceiling. Hitting it will cause the water level to rise again and will take you to another opening on the right. Going through this opening will take you to a separate end of level flagpole that will unlock World 2-A.
- After collecting all of the coins in the ceiling opening, hit the switch again to swim into the opening on the right with the arrow.
- Jump over or kill the huge piranha plant with fireballs and continue all the way right to find two ? Blocks. The one on the right will contain a power-up.
- Go back and head up the slope. Go left when you reach the top. Jump up on the platform to find two different tunnels. Take the right tunnel and jump to the top of the platform. Get a running start and jump to the right to land on another platform that holds the final Star Coin.
- Jump down and head to the right. Jump all the way up through the manhole. If you need a power-up head left, otherwise go right.
- Hit the red ! Switch to create a bridge of red blocks that will take you over the piranha plant and through the pipe.
- Move the spring to the edge of the pipe and jump up to unveil a hidden block. Jump onto that block to give you the height you need to jump to the top of the flagpole and nab a 1-Up.
World 2-4
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 11 - World 2-4 (Time: 2:46)
- The ? Switches in this level will cause the ground to rise, allowing you to hit the three ? Blocks up above. The middle block contains a power-up.
- Continue to the right until you see the first Star Coin being guarded by a Piranha Plant. Go under the pipe and wait for the plant to recede into its home. Then jump onto the pipe and grab the coin.
- With the coin in hand, proceed onwards. You'll run into a descending stairway of platforms that are each guarded by piranhas. If you have a fire flower, simply toast the plants as they pop out. Otherwise, just wait for the right timing.
- When you reach the water at the bottom, swim to the right, go past the P Block, and swim through the small passage at the bottom to reach two pipes. The red one has a piranha and the green one will take you to a secret area.
- Avoid the Cheep-Cheeps and make your way to the other side of the pool to enter another pipe.
- Before you hit the ? Switch and run all the way to the left to get the next Star Coin.
- Hit the switch and jump on to the bridge above.
- Continue onwards until you see a brick block and a ? Block next to each other. The ? Block has a power-up and the brick block has a ? Switch. Hit the switch and jump to the right when on top of the mound to reach the platform on the right.
- Be careful in this next part. Two Hammer Brothers occupy the two rows of blocks and can quickly put a stop to you if you rush into them. If you have a fire flower, take them out from a distance. Otherwise, try to run under them and hit the block they're standing on to knock them out. Don't forget to grab the last Star Coin once they're eliminated.
- Proceed a little further to the right to finish the level.
World 2-Tower
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 12 - World 2-Tower (Time: 3:11)
- Proceed across the windmill platforms. There will be a power-up at the top of the second windmill in the middle ? Block.
- Jump on top of the ? Blocks to reach the third windmill platform. Ride it until it reaches the left side and then jump to the left when the next platform becomes visible.
- Continue across the rope, collecting all of the coins along the way.
- Jump onto the next windmill and ride it to the top until you can reach the rope. Shimmy along to the right until you reach the next windmill. Fall all the way down to the floor and run to the right to find the first Star Coin.
- Now go back to the rope and head left this time. Get back on the first windmill and this time jump to the small platform on the left.
- Wall jump up to reach a door that will take you to a secret room.
- Continuously wall jump inside of the golden inverted U as it starts moving. When it reaches the platform on the right, fall down, and quickly ascend the platforms on the right so that you can jump on top of the golden blocks.
- Once on top, jump to get the second Star Coin and land on the next platform. Do more continuous wall jumps in the next contraption to ride it up to another door.
- Hit the red block to cause a bunch of rotating shape platforms to appear. Jump across to the second red square, but don't enter the pipe yet. Instead, wall jump between the wall and the pipe to hit another red block.
- This will cause more shapes to appear to the left. Jump across them to reach the third and final Star Coin.
- Now you can enter the red pipe, which will take you straight to the boss door.
Boss: Koopa Jr. 2
- This is basically the same as the previous fight except now Koopa Jr will hide in his shell after you jump on him, preventing you from hitting him again until he comes out.
- If you have a fire flower, you can once again just hit him with fireballs until he dies.
- Three jumps, nine fireballs, or a combination of the two will put him down for the count.
World 2-5
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 13 - World 2-5 (Time: 2:17)
- You'll be introduced to Blockhoppers in this level. These little buggers disguise themselves (rather poorly) as ? Blocks and attempt to jump on you whenever you get close. You can identify them by the fact that their question mark doesn't move. In this level, you'll use these guys to reach hard to reach places by jumping on them when they're about to jump. If you listen closely to the music you can tell when they're about to jump. They always jump when they make that little "wah" sound.
- The third ? Block from the start contains a power-up.
- You'll run into your first group of Blockhoppers, try to lure the big one close to the bunch of brick blocks. When it jumps, jump off towards the trail of coins to collect your first Star Coin.
- Continue to the right, stomping on all of the Blockhoppers along the way until you reach the halfway point.
- Hit the ? Block for a power-up.
- Don't collect the coins yet as you continue onwards. When you see three brick blocks together, hit the middle block to make a P Switch emerge. Hit the switch to turn all of the coins into blocks, allowing you to jump across them and collect the second Star Coin.
- Head to the right, but be wary of the Boomerang Bro. Take him out fast as once he gets two boomerangs going at once, it becomes difficult to approach him.
- Instead of going into the pipe, jump into the quick sand via the opening on the right. Hold right and keep jumping until you end up on top of the platform at the bottom right. Head into the opening.
- Go all the way down and jump on to the Blockhopper to reach the third Star Coin for the level.
- Once you've got the coin, jump back up to the surface, head to the right, and use the Blockhopper to reach the top of the flagpole and end the level.
World 2-6
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 14 - World 2-6 (Time: 3:07)
- Head to the right and into the red pipe to truly kick this level off.
- The screen will constantly be scrolling so be sure not to fall behind.
- Your biggest threats in this level are the piranha plants. If you have a fire flower, just send a fireball their way to neutralize them.
- The first two piranhas you pass by are harmless unless you go out of your way to jump into them.
- The two after however will land on your platform if you do not take them out with a fireball.
- Duck under the green pipe to avoid getting hit by the piranha inside.
- Collect the first Star Coin by using the elevator platform to give you the extra height you need to snag it.
- The third ? Block here will contain a power-up.
- In the next group of ? Blocks, the second one will grant you a 1-Up mushroom. Don't kill yourself trying to get it though, as that would defeat the purpose.
- More piranhas will be coming your way, so get rid of them with more fireballs.
- When a second large platform appears, jump on it to get it to start moving.
- Just hang tight on this platform continuing to get rid of piranhas as they pop up and eventually the platform will slowly start to drift off screen. When elevator platforms start appearing, jump on them until you make it all the way to solid land.
- You'll see what looks like a spring next to a pipe with a piranha. Ground pound the spring a couple of times to blow out the piranha, allowing you to head down the pipe.
- Jump across the platforms to reach the end of the level.
World 2-A
- YouTube: World 2-A Normal Exit (Time: 2:10)
- YouTube: World 2-A Normal Exit (Time: 2:28)
- NOTE: This level is unlocked by going through the branching path in World 2-3
- The Spike Bass in the waters below will periodically jump out and try to eat poor Mario. You can tell when he's about to jump by when he dips down.
- Hit the first ? Block for a power-up and then continue heading right.
- When you see a log above and a log below, take the lower log to reach the first Star Coin.
- Continue to the right and you'll find a long section with lots of springs and lots of coins.
- Use the springs to avoid having to deal with the Spike Bass as you work your way towards the right.
- Near the end, you'll come across the second Star Coin below a platform. Use the spring to launch up and avoid landing on the platforms to glide into the coin.
- Branching Path: This is trick, but while your still spinning from getting the second Star Coin, veer to the right and try to land on the Koopa as it's on the right side of the platform to bounce off and wind up in the small niche above. Enter the pipe to find the third Star Coin and an alternate exit.
- Enter the pipe on the right, jump on the spring and work your way to the right to find the end of the level.
World 2-Castle
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 15 - World 2- Castle (Time: 3:05)
- When the level begins, wait for the spiked ball to fall into the pit. Then proceed to the right.
- The second ? Block you come across will contain a power-up.
- Jump over the spiked balls as you continue to the right. When you reach the rope, Tarzan-swing over the gap to avoid getting hit by the giant spiked ball.
- When reach another group of three ? Blocks, the middle block will contain a power-up.
- Run into the tunnel, fall into the small hole, and crouch to avoid getting hit by the spiked ball. When it passes get up, run to the next one, and crouch again. When that one passes, run to the next area and jump onto the blocks to avoid the spiked ball.
- Wall jump up to the top platform and run for the hole that leads to the first Star Coin.
- Jump down and continue to the right, across the gap, over the spiked ball, and through the door.
- Head to the right, jump over the first canon, and duck to avoid the Bullet Bill fired by the second one.
- Jump onto the third canon and wait for a Bullet Bill to come near you. Use the Bullet Bill as a boost to get up to the platform that holds the second Star Coin.
- Head up the stairs and duck under the Bullet Bills that fly your way.
- Hit the ? Switch to cause the land to sink. Jump down and avoid the rolling spiked ball as you head across.
- The next ? Block here contains a power-up.
- Use the rope to jump over the big spiked ball and onto a platform with two ? Blocks. The right-most block contains a tiny Mushroom. Collect it and then continue on.
- Use your tiny size to enter the tunnel that leads to the third Star Coin.
- Shortcut: If you want skip to World 4, ignore the next step. You're going to need to defeat the boss with the Tiny Mushroom still active.
- Hit the ? Block to get a mushroom and return to normal size.
- Continue to the right, over the stationary spike ball, and hit the switch to lower the land and reveal the Boss Door. Without getting hit by the now rolling spiked ball, enter the door.
Boss - Mummified Pokey
- Mummy Pokey has two main ways of attack. The first is to shoot rocks at you. They move fairly slow and can be avoided by simply jumping over them.
- The second method is actually the one that leaves him the most vulnerable. He will disappear underground and then pop up in a random location. He telegraphs where he's about to emerge by kicking up a bunch of dust before he pops out.
- As far as defeating him goes, it's simply a matter of jumping on his head when he's about to emerge. If you have a fire flower, it'll take nine fireballs to put him down. If you have a blue shell, it'll take three hits with your sliding attack.
- Note: If you're trying to beat him with the Tiny Mushroom, you'll need to ground pound his head instead of just jumping on it.
World 3-1
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 16 - World 3-1 (Time: 2:07)
- Welcome to your first underwater level. Jump in the green pipe to get started.
- Lets start by going over the different kinds of Cheep Cheeps. The orange fishes are passive and will just swim along a straight line. As long as you don't touch them, they won't be a problem. The Purple Cheep Cheeps on the other hand will lock on to you and charge towards you. If they eat you, it's an instant death, so avoid at all costs. All Cheep Cheeps will go down with one fireball, which makes the fire flower invaluable for this level.
- With that out of the way, proceed to the right, avoiding all of the fishes along the way.
- Swim through the red ring to cause the eight red coins to appear. Collect them all for a power-up.
- Once you get to the halfway marker, you'll find a new block that gives you a power-up depending on when you hit it. Aim for a fire flower if you don't already have one.
- Continue to the right and you'll run into your first purple Cheep Cheep. Remember, avoid its charge at all costs.
- When you see three pipes side by side, go into the middle green one. Collect all the coins you want in here, but make sure to grab the first Star Coin above all else.
- When you return to the main level, you'll find the second Star Coin between two pipes that are blowing air downwards.
- Swim a little further to the right and you'll see a P Switch and a bunch of brick blocks. Hit the switch, but ignore the nearby coins and swim to the right. You'll see the third Star Coin surrounded by a bunch of normal coins. Get it before the coins turn back into blocks.
- Continue onwards and you'll find another red ring for more red coins.
- After collecting the red coins, go just a little further to the right to reach a pipe that will bring you back to the surface.
- Jump on the blocks to get the height and momentum you need to reach the top of the flagpole.

- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 17 - World 3-2 (Branching Path) (Time: 1:56)
- The first ? Block you see will contain a power-up.
- Go across the three seesaw mushroom platforms, but be wary as there are plenty of Goombas and Koopas along the way.
- Go across the pulley platforms to reach the midpoint of the level. Enter the nearby yellow pipe.
- Inside here you'll find the first Star Coin along with a bunch of regular coins. Grab what you need, then exit through the pipe on the right side.
- When you return to the main level, go left and hit the ? Blocks to find a power-up.
- Jump across the two pulley platforms, but be sure to be quick when you jump off the second one so you still have the height you need to get the second Star Coin on the high platform.
- Jump on the mushroom platform to cause it to start moving. There is a branching path coming up. If you want to bypass it, skip to number 12 of this guide.
- Branching Path: There are three pipes above you. The only one that will take you to a secret area is the green one, so make your way into it.
- Hit the P Switch, then quickly jump on the spring, and jump off to fly into the air to try and collect as many coins as you can. When you reach the peak of your jump, press down to quickly come down and try again. You'll only have enough time for about two jumps so make them count. When you're done, exit through the pipe on the right.
- Jump across all of the seesaw mushrooms here to reach the secondary end of level flagpole and unlock World 3-B.
- End Branching Path
- Be careful on this seesaw mushroom, it tilts very wildly towards the end. Once it reaches the other side, quickly jump off.
- In this next section there is a red ring that will cause the eight red coins to appear. Collect the first four by simply jumping from platform to platform. Coins five and six must be collected by waiting on the last platform until it falls, and then quickly jumping off as soon as you get the coins.
- Jump on to the next moving mushroom platform. The last Star Coin is suspended high above in plain sight. Be careful when trying to get it because like the last one, this mushroom moves very wildly and can easily shift your momentum to make you run off the platform when you land.
- Once the platform reaches the other side you'll be able to end the level.
World 3-Tower
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 18 - World 3-Tower (Time: 2:21)
- Jump in the middle pipe to be shot upwards towards the fences. Don't grab on to the highest fence yet though. Fall back down and grab on to the fence closest to the ground.
- TIP: First let's go over the mechanics of climbing on these fences. Pressing the Y button will cause Mario to punch the fence. If used on an enemy on the opposite side of the fence as Mario, the enemy will be knocked off the fence. If used on a special square or rectangle with hinges on the fence, it will cause Mario to switch to the other side of the fence. When dealing with Koopas on the same side of the fence as him, Mario can move downwards on to their head to knock them off that way.
- Move to the left after you grab on to the fence and jump to the fence above. Take this fence all the way up and jump on to the platform on the right. Your first Star Coin will be within reach.
- Jump back down and re-enter the middle pipe. This time grab on to the highest fence.
- Jump up the first two fences and then position yourself in the large rectangle in the middle. Punch the rectangle to be moved to the other side of the Amps. Climb up and jump through the hole at the top on to the next platform.
- Jump on to the fence and jump through the two brick blocks at the top.
- Work your way up and jump through the next set of blocks to another big fence. Punch the rectangle to move to the other side.
- Ground pound the blocks and jump on the fence to your left to get the second Star Coin.
- Go back to the right and return to the big fence you just came from. Instead of punching the rectangle, go all the way up, jump through the blocks and enter the door.
- Hit the red ! Switch and quickly work your way up to the top. If you're fast enough you'll be able to reach the third Star Coin and the door leading out of this room.
- Jump up to the fence above and hit the ? Block on the right to get a power-up. Run to the left and enter the Boss Doors.
Boss - Koopa Jr. 3
- This guy sure doesn't evolve very much. He's still basically the same as he was the last two times.
- He moves a little bit faster, but it still shouldn't be anything you can't handle.
- Just to recap; 9 fireballs, 3 jumps on the head, two buttstomps, or a combination of the three will take him out.
- If he tries to jump on you, quickly run to the left or right.
- After you jump on him he'll hide in his shell. This is so you can't jump on him twice in a row.
World 3-3
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 19 - World 3-3 (Time: 3:01)
- Head into the green pipe to dive into your next underwater level.
- This time the main enemies are Bloopers. They are much more aggressive than Cheep Cheeps, but can only move in short bursts diagonally and upwards. They go down with one fireball, so as always, a fire flower is a highly recommended power-up for this level.
- Follow the arrow to the right and hit the first ? Block you see for a power-up.
- Keep swimming to the right until you see a yellow pipe. Head down all the way and look to your left for the first Star Coin.
- To your right is a ? Switch that will turn off the air jets from the pipes. Hit it and quickly swim upwards and to the right. When you see the green and yellow pipes on top of each other, head down.
- There will be a red ring here for another chance to collect 8 red coins. After you do so, move to the right.
- Enter the third pipe from the left.
- This is a very large secret area, but your main destination is the bottom right where you'll find your second Star Coin. There is also a power-up block that is guarded by many bloopers. Once you've gotten what you came for, exit through the pipe at the top right.
- Follow the arrows and swim up and to the right. Eventually you'll come across a pipe at the top and several pipes at the bottom blowing bubbles. Swim down all the way and you'll find your last Star Coin. Immediately after you touch it, Bloopers will ambush you so quickly swim back up to avoid them.
- Enter the pipe at the top to return to land and end the level.
World 3-Ghost House
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 20 - World 3-Ghost House (Time: 7:20)
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 20 - World 3-Ghost House (Branching Path) (Time: 2:55)
- Welcome to your first ghost house. As you probably guessed, this will be your first time dealing with Boos. As any Mario vet knows, when you're facing a Boo, they freeze in place and when you're facing away from a Boo, they will home in on you to attack. Boos cannot be killed by anything but a sliding Blue Shell Mario or a Star. Use this knowledge to position Boos so that they don't get in your way.
- Hit the first ? Block for a power-up, but know that instead of just emerging from the block, it will be thrown.
- Run to the right and hit the ? Switch to cause stairs to appear.
- Run up the stairs and down the other side.
- Ignore the Boos and enter the first door you see. There will be a power-up in the left block and a Boo in the right. Exit through the same door you entered from.
- Continue to the right until you see another door under a staircase.
- Enter the door to find a room full of enemy pumpkins. Jump on them once to crack their shell and cause them to run around much faster. Jump on them twice to kill them. Anyway, your second Star Coin is suspended high in this room. Jump on a pumpkin to grab it and then leave.
- When the elevator platform comes down, hit the ? Switch and use the platform to jump on the newly formed stairs. Head up about halfway and then jump to the left staircase. Follow those stairs up to find the second Star Coin.
- Jump down and hit the ? Switch again, but this time take the stairs all the way up.
- Jump over the gap and go down the slope. Hit the brick block to unveil a ? Switch.
- Branching Path: To unlock the path to the warp canon for this world, hit the ? Switch, then quickly ascend the stairs, jump over the gap, down the slope you came up earlier and into the door to the left of the one you entered to collect the first Star Coin. You'll find a separate end of level flagpole through that door.
- Hit the ? Switch, run up the stairs, drop down into the gap and enter the newly created door.
- Hit the nearby ? Block for another power-up.
- Jump up the platforms to your left to find a Power-up Block. You're going to need a Blue Shell, so try to time your jump accordingly. The blue shell should appear right after the star.
- Head to the right to find another ? Switch. Hit it and jump up the three flights of stairs.
- Before you go into the door, use your shell dash to break the blocks on the left side. You'll find the final Star Coin at the end of the tunnel.
- Enter the door and jump on the flagpole to end the level.
World 3-A
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 21 - World 3-A (Time: 2:56)
- Head to the right and jump on top of the barrel to grab a power-up from the ? Block.
- The new enemies you'll find in this level are the Skeeters. These guys skid along the surface of the water and drop bombs below.
- Work your way to the right until you reach an area where you see a bunch of dotted lines where blocks should be. Swim to the right and hit the red switch to cause red blocks to appear. Quickly swim back to the left and jump across the blocks to reach the ledge on the right.
- Head to the right to activate the halfway marker and hit the ? Blocks for coins and a power-up.
- Jump into the water and wait for the Skeeter above to destroy the blocks that cut you off from the first Star Coin. Once you get the coin, kill the Skeeter and proceed to the right.
- Between two barrels in the water will be a ? Block containing a Tiny Mushroom. Grab it and continue on.
- The second Star Coin will be a little bit further to the right suspended over a barrel. To get to it, jump on the Koopa and hold the jump button.
- Exit through the green pipe at the end to reach a new part of the level.
- Continue heading right and enter the first green pipe you see.
- Remember that you should have Mini Mario right now from the Tiny Mushroom you got earlier. Run across the water and jump, using the coins as a guide, to grab the final Star Coin. Exit through the pipe on the left.
- Just a little bit further to the right and you'll reach another pipe that will take you to the end of the level.
World 3-B
- YouTube: World 3-B (Time: 2:04)
- This level might as well be known as Pipe and Piranha Heaven. Get a running start and jump over the first pipe when the Piranha retracts.
- Hit the two ? Blocks for a power-up and a coin, then continue heading to the right.
- If you have a fire flower, this level becomes much easier. Toast the Piranhas whenever they stick their head out.
- You won't be able to go into any of the pipes for a while, so don't even try.
- Once you get to a spot where there is a lone red pipe in between two green pipes with pits on both sides, enter it.
- Head to the left and enter the red pipe to get the first Star Coin. Head back down.
- Hit the power-up block for a power-up of your choosing and then return through the red pipe on the right.
- Continue heading right until you reach the last green pipe that stands above a horizontal yellow pipe below. Wall jump off the red pipe to the right and the green pipe to the left to land on the platform holding the next Star Coin.
- Hit the right ? Block for a power-up.
- Continue heading right, past the many piranhas and you'll eventually come across the third Star Coin in plain sight. Just jump to the green pipe below and snag it.
- A little further to the right and you'll find the end of level flagpole.
World 3-C
- YouTube: World 3-C (Time: 2:09)
- Our good old friend the Spiked Bass is back. You don't have to worry too much about him though as you should be out of his range for the majority of the time he's around.
- Hit the first ? Block for a power-up.
- Continue across the log platforms until you see the first Star Coin. The small logs here will fall down when you stand on them, so take one down and pick up the coin quickly before the Spiked Bass comes around and tries to take a bite out of you.
- In the next section you'll be faced with some high flying Cheep-Cheeps that leap out of the water. They come out extremely fast so take your time in this next section.
- When you reach the halfway marker, hit the ? Block for a power-up.
- You'll see the next Star Coin stuck in between two platforms. To get it, just swim down and jump off the walls. If you have a fire flower, use it to rid yourself of the Spiked Bass first.
- This next part is a little tricky. Hit the P-Switch and immediately start running to the right, ignoring all ? Blocks and enemies. You need to do some quick platforming to ensure that you don't fall in the water. Your goal is to make it into the red pipe above a row of brick blocks before the blocks turn back into coins.
- If you make it, you'll appear on a falling log that will fall right on to the third Star Coin. You will also be right next to the end of the level.
World 3-Castle
- YouTube: World 3-Castle (Time: 3:37)
- Once the giant spike retracts, run all the way to the ? Block and stop. Hit it for a power-up.
- Once the next spike retracts, run past it and the spike right after it but stop when you see the first Star Coin. Once the spike retracts, head down and grab the coin, but don't come up yet. Wait in the small little alcove where you'll be safe. Head back up and to the right once its safe.
- The donut blocks in this next area won't sustain your weight for very long, so quickly jump on them and to the other side once both spikes retract.
- After you get the halfway marker, hit the ? Block for another power-up.
- Time to meet our good friends the Thwomps. When you get close to these guys, they will fall forward in an attempt to flatten you like a pancake. Bait them by moving close and then moving away. Then jump on them and ground pound to defeat them.
- Defeat the first two Thwomps and then bait the third one to fall on the spikes, giving you a platform to help you across the spikes.
- Jump on to the pole and to the next platform. Head to the right until you reach a rope. Instead of jumping towards the big Thwomp, jump to the left. Wall jump off the right wall and run across the ceiling to the left. You'll eventually fall through the second Star Coin and on to the Thwomp guarding the spikes.
- Once again go up the pole and to the right, but this time jump to the right when you reach the rope. Try to get the Thwomp to fall before you jump by moving left and right while swinging on the rope.
- Jump past the next giant spike, hit the ? Block for a power-up, but wait before proceeding any further.
- If you're quick enough, you should be able to run past the next 5 spikes in one go.
- Jump down past the next spike to find the Boss Doors. Before heading in though, get a running start and slide under the blocks when the spike on the right retracts. Hide in the water hugging the wall on the left so you don't get hit when the spike comes down again. Once it retracts again, quickly jump on to the platform on the left and then jump to the platform on the right to grab the third Star Coin.
- When all is safe, return back through the way you came and enter the Boss Doors.
Boss - Cheepskipper
- This will probably be the hardest boss so far, but it still isn't very difficult.
- This purple Cheep Cheep along with several small orange Cheep Cheeps will jump out of the water to try and hit you. The Cheepskipper himself will actually bounce along the bridge, giving you ample time to jump on him while he's exposed.
- Once again, three jumps on his head, two ground pounds, nine fireballs, or a combination of the three will be enough to take this boss down.
World 4
- Note: If you're coming off of World 3, you will actually be sent to world 5. World 4 is only unlocked by beating the boss of World 2 with a Tiny Mushroom.

- TIP: The purple water here is poisonous. It will kill you instantly if you touch it.
- The second ? Block here will have a power-up. The rest contain coins.
- The new enemy you'll face here are the Scuttlebugs. They're spiders that hang from webs and bob up and down. You can defeat them normally by jumping on top of them. Just don't touch their sides.
- Use the Koopa shells to take out the Scuttlebugs that block the way as you continue to the right.
- When you reach more ? Blocks, the last one on the bottom row will give you a power-up.
- Continue onwards until you see the first Star Coin. Jump on the Scuttlebug and hold down the jump button to reach it.
- On the next platform you'll see three brick blocks. Jump on top of the middle block and jump to hit a hidden block with a 1-Up.
- As you proceed further, you'll eventually come across Nessie, a friendly blue monster that will ferry you across the dangerous waters. If you butt stomp Nessie, she will tilt her head down and speed up.
- The first ? Block you come across while on Nessie will contain a power-up. If you need it, get it. If you don't, ignore it.
- The second Star Coin will appear overhead. This can be tricky, but when a Scuttlebug lowers itself, jump on it to grab the coin and make sure that you can land on Nessie as well.
- Shortcut: While riding Nessie, you'll find a row of five blocks with two ? Blocks on both ends. Jump on to these blocks by using a Scuttlebug to give you a boost, and then jump while on top of the third block to reveal a hidden vine that will take you up to a pipe. Enter the pipe and then jump across the three Scuttlebugs to find a hidden end of level flagpole. This will open a new path that lets you skip the next two levels in addition to getting access to a 1-Up store.
- After grabbing the second coin you can just butt stomp Nessie and duck down to avoid any Scuttlebugs until you reach solid ground.
- Continue to the right across the donut platforms and you'll eventually find the last Star Coin below a platform and between two Scuttlebugs. Get rid of the two spiders first and then jump against the platform that is above the coin and simply hold the direction that the coin is facing. You should slide against the wall and then on to the two donut platforms that the coin is resting on.
- Once you have the coin, continue to the right and jump on the Scuttlebug to reach the end of the level.
World 4-2
- YouTube: World 4-2 (Time: 1:51)
- The right most ? Block will contain a power-up.
- The purple mushroom platforms here will tilt depending on which side your standing on. If you stand on one side for too long you will slide off the platform, so keep that in mind.
- Jump across the various platforms until you reach another ? Block. The brick block right beside it will contain a 1-Up mushroom.
- A little further to the right and you'll find the first Star Coin. Wall jump off the wall to the left of the coin to snag it and land on the red mushroom platform below.
- You'll reach the half-way marker and another ? Block with a power-up.
- Jump on top of the ? Block and then jump to the purple mushroom.
- The second purple mushroom platform will hold the second Star Coin. To grab it, wait on the right side of the second purple mushroom until it tilts down far enough for you to snag the coin.
- As you continue onwards you'll spot another red ring. Grab the eight red coins and claim your prize.
- When you come across solid ground again, take the steps to the top and jump to the purple mushroom on the right. Let the mushroom tilt a bit to the left before jumping off so you can make it on the platform on the left.
- Hit the brick block above to cause a vine to sprout and take you to a secret area.
- Jump on the clouds and hit the other brick block to cause another vine to emerge. Climb it to the top to reach the last Star Coin of the level. Exit through the pipe at the bottom.
- Not much else to do but continue heading to the right, jumping across all of the mushroom platforms in your path until you reach the end of level flagpole.
World 4-3
- YouTube: World 4-3 (Time: 2:54)
- TIP: Another underwater level. This time the main enemies are eels. There are two types of Eels. Big eels will take up a whole half of the screen as they swim from right to left. Small eels hide in little holes and snap left and right trying to bite you when you get near. You can't kill either type, so just avoid them.
- Jump into the pipe and let's get started.
- The ? Block between the two brick blocks will contain a power-up.
- As you can see, this is a scrolling level, so don't get too far behind or you might find yourself sandwiched between the edge of the screen and a wall.
- After you get the power-up, stay on the lower end of the screen to avoid the large eel that is about to come chewing up everything on the top half.
- Once the eel is gone, stay close to the right side of the screen. The first Star Coin is going to show up soon and you'll need a lot of time in order to get it.
- As soon as you get the coin, immediately swim to the top half to avoid the next large eel.
- You can try to get the eight red coins if you want after going through the red rings, but they're placed very dangerously next to small eels. Don't kill yourself trying to get them.
- After you pass the halfway marker, grab the power-up from the ? Block and stay on the bottom half to avoid the next large eel.
- You're going to need to swim through the small opening between the large eel and the wall above the small eels.
- Between those two small eels is the second Star Coin. Very delicately swim down and then immediately swim back up to avoid being eel food.
- You'll soon see a ? Switch at the top of the screen. Wait a little bit before hitting it. Doing so will stop the air jets from the pipes which would blow you up into the large eel that's about to hog the top side of the screen. Once you hit it, swim close to the pipes and enter the second green pipe that is near the end.
- In this next room, swim left from where you entered and wait for the eels to snap to the left. Once they do, swim down and collect the third Star Coin. Exit the same way you came in.
- The next large eel will hog the bottom, so make your way to the top.
- Once the large eel passes, you'll soon come to an area with a bunch of coins in between two sets of small eels on both sides. This is tricky, but try to swim upwards directly in the middle of these coins.
- Once you get by that obstacle, you're home free. Enter the pipe, which will take you to solid ground, which will lead you to the end of the level. Just be careful of the Goomba that's on the steps.
World 4-Tower
- YouTube: World 4-Tower (Time: 2:24)
- Use the sandwiching blocks as steps to climb to the top. The ? Block on the left holds a power-up. Enter the door.
- You're going to have to be fast here as the lava is quickly rising.
- Climb up the first long fence and jump to the right. Hit the right most ? Block for another power-up. Jump on the right most fence and keep going up.
- When you reach an area where you see a gray block that is moving up and down, hit the square on the fence to switch sides and then jump to the left.
- Go past the gray block and behind the fence to find the first Star Coin.
- Continue traveling upwards via jumping from fence to fence.
- When you go past the two sandwiching blocks, move to the right and jump between the two Amps to get the second Star Coin.
- Head left and continue heading up. The next ? Block you see will contain a power-up.
- When you reach the section with the Dry Bones and a bunch of sandwiching blocks, jump off the fence, jump on the Dry Bones, and jump on the platform to your right. Be sure to duck if the block is coming back to the right. Once it goes back, jump on the fence and keep heading up.
- Eventually you'll be able to jump on to the third block and get the third Star Coin.
- Jump on the fence to your left and continue heading upwards.
- You'll find a red coin ring here. If you miss one, don't go back to get it as you run the risk of the lava sneaking up on you.
- Finally you'll reach the top and the Boss Doors.
Boss - Koopa Jr. 4
- Hey would you look at that; he actually learned something from the last two fights.
- This time he'll hide under his shell whenever you try to jump on him. When he comes out of his shell, he'll throw a Koopa shell at you. Jump on the Koopa shell, pick it up and throw it back at him to knock him on his back. While he's on his back, ground pound him.
- It only takes to ground pounds to defeat him. Fireballs are still effective and will still take him down in 9 hits.
World 4-4
- YouTube: World 4-4 (Time: 2:17)
- Wigglers make their debut in this stage. Just like in Super Mario World, Wiggler's are impervious to jumps and fireballs, but jumping on them will make them very angry. They will turn red and start moving with much more haste and aggression. Because they can't die, you can bounce on them repeatedly to reach high places.
- The ? Block that is in between two brick blocks contains a power-up. You can use the Wiggler to reach it if it happens to be a fire flower.
- For the eight red coins, use the Wiggler to get high enough to collect the top four coins.
- When you come across pit with a platform down below guarded by a Wiggler, jump against the right wall and hold right to land on the platform. The first Star Coin is here. Getting out might be a bit of a hassle, but you're going to have to time your jump a bit late so that you don't bump your head on the ceiling and kill your jump height. Wall jump off the left and right walls to return to the top level.
- Continue to the right, across the donut bridge and hit the left brick block to create a vine. Don't forget to hit the power-up block to the left as well.
- Climb up the vine and go left. Next to the brick block is an invisible block that will cause a vine to emerge. Climb the vine and jump to the left to grab the next Star Coin.
- Now head to the right and slide down the slopes. When you reach the end you'll see the third Star Coin suspended near the bottom of a pit. To grab it, wall slide on the left wall and then wall jump when you collect the coin.
- Now just jump on the Wigglers and Koopas all the way until you reach the pipe at the end.
- Jump on the flagpole and end the level.

- TIP: In order to get the third Star Coin and unlock the warp canon for this level, you're going to need a Tiny Mushroom. Either find a mushroom shop or go back to world 1-4 to grab one. Note that if you get it at World 1-4, you need to complete the level in order to keep the power-up.
- The first ? Block here will contain a power-up, but you're going to want to bypass it if you've got the Tiny Mushroom already.
- Jump across the various platforms and avoid all the boos until you reach a door.
- Enter the door and hit the ? Switch to cause four ? Blocks on strings to fall down. You can hit these blocks if you want, but the real purpose is to jump on top of them so that when they get pulled back up, you go along with them.
- Head right to find your first Star Coin. Jump on the device to be taken to the other side of the wall.
- Continue to the right to meet the Balloon Boos. These guys function the same as normal Boos, only when you're facing them they'll inflate, and when you're facing away from them they'll deflate as they're chasing after you.
- Avoid the Balloon Boos and make your way up the platforms and to the left. You'll find a red switch here that you can hit to cause red platforms to appear. Use the platforms to enter the door on the right side.
- Now head left and hit the other red switch. Wall jump up the newly created walls of red blocks to find your second Star Coin. Fall back down through the opening on the left.
- Branching Path: Hopefully you still have that Tiny Mushroom. Run to the right, past the Balloon Boo and jump off the right wall to get on top of the pipe. Then wall jump off the pipe to get on top of a small platform on the right side. Wall jump up some more and you'll find a door that will lead you to the end of the level. Don't go in the door yet though. Wall jump off the two walls again to find the last Star Coin at the very top.
- Hit the switch again and run to the right side. Jump on the newly created red blocks and enter the pipe.
- Run to the left, jump up the platforms, up the ? Blocks, and to the platform on the right.
- Run to the right to find a door that will take you to the end of the level.
World 4-5
- YouTube: World 4-5 (Time: 3:20)
- Head into the pipe.
- You'll finally get to see some Bob-ombs in this level. As you may have guessed, Bob-ombs will walk around aimlessly until you damage them via jumping on them or hitting them with a fireball. From there they have a five second fuse, after which they will blow up and destroy any blocks or enemies in the area, including you.
- Head to the right and hit the block the Bob-omb is standing on to trigger it to explode, allowing you to get the power-up from the ? Block.
- Continue to the right and use a Bob-omb or two to blow an opening in the blocks for you to enter through.
- Be wary of the Spinies on the ceiling; they will fall down and slide towards you when you get close.
- Continue heading right until you hit the halfway marker. Grab the power-up from the nearby ? Block.
- As you proceed forward, you'll see your first Star Coin imprisoned between four blocks. Use a Bob-omb to break one of the sides so you can grab the coin.
- Your second Star Coin will be suspended in the air a little bit further down, also imprisoned by a cage of blocks. The trick here is to make the Bob-omb explode three or four blocks from either end. This is so you can reach the platform when the drawbridge that you're on reaches its highest point.
- Keep on heading right, but take your time because the Spinies are positioned so that if you run too fast, you will run into them as they fall.
- You'll eventually come across an area where Bob-ombs will drop from a pipe on the ceiling. You should also notice that there is a pipe on the bottom with blocks covering the entrance. Use the Bob-ombs to clear the entrance to the pipe and then head inside.
- You should already know what to do here, but to make things easy on yourself, don't start with the sides. Instead, jump on the Bob-omb in the middle, he'll blow up the two blocks below him, then take the Bob-omb on the left and simply drop him in the middle. Now you've freed the final Star Coin with only two Bob-ombs. Exit through the pipe on the right.
- Walk a few steps to the right to find a pipe that will take you to the end of the level.
World 4-6
- YouTube: World 4-6 (Time: 3:13)
- Our old friend Nessie is back, and he has grown a lot since the last time you've seen him.
- Head to the right and jump on Nessie's back to begin the cruise.
- He will lower his head automatically, so when you come to the first floating island, jump off and hit the ? Block for a power-up. Jump back on Nessie when he re-emerges.
- You'll soon see a red ring, but getting the red coins in this part makes getting the first Star Coin rather difficult, so just jump on the island and get the coin.
- Jump on the next island and hit the brick block to score some serious coinage before jumping back on to Nessie.
- Continue riding Nessie until you come to a section where Nessie must submerge alone. Jump on to solid ground and avoid the three Piranha Plants. Make your way to the other side and wait for Nessie to arrive to continue the cruise.
- Jump on the next floating island and wait for Nessie to start going under it before you hit the P Block. Once you hit it, butt stomp the ? Block so that the power-up lands on Nessie, jump to the platform holding the second Star Coin and then quickly jump back on to Nessie.
- Duck to avoid the Piranha plants that occupy the pipes in this next area. The Paratroopas shouldn't be too much of a worry, but if the one that travels horizontally gets in your way, jump on him and send his shell into the purple water.
- When you pass the last yellow pipe, move to Nessie's head and get ready to jump to hit the red ! Switch at the top. You only have one shot at this, so make sure your timing is perfect. When you hit it, jump on the red blocks next to the pipe and enter.
- Slide down the slope to take out all of the enemies in one go.
- Grab the third Star Coin and however many regular coins you can.
- Head to the right and hit the ? Block for a 1-Up mushroom, then exit through the pipe.
- A few more steps to the right and you'll find the pipe that leads you to the exit.
World 4-A
- YouTube: World 4-A (Time: 3:20)
- Swing across the vine and then hit the first ? Block for a power-up.
- Continue swinging across the vines as you head towards the right.
- Soon you'll ditch the vines in favor of wheel platforms. Jump on top platform to make the wheel turn to the right, but be sure to jump to the top again before the platform you're on touches the water.
- When you reach the half-way point, hit the middle ? Block for a power-up.
- Continue using the wheel platforms to head rightwards and you'll soon come to the first Star Coin suspended in the air near some Koopas. Its within jumping distance, so just jump to snag it.
- When you reach the next wheel platform, take a look above and you'll see the bottom end of a vine. Hop on to a Koopa and grab the vine. Swing to the right and enter the pipe.
- In this next room, jump on top of the blocks and make your way to the middle where you'll find a P Switch. Hit the switch to turn the blocks to coins and grab the second Star Coin. Exit through the pipe.
- Continue heading right across the Piranha infested pipes. When you reach the last three, enter the smallest green pipe.
- Grab the last Star Coin in here and then exit through the large green pipe.
- Head to the right and you'll reach the end of the level.
World 4-Castle
- YouTube: World 4-Castle (Time: 3:27)
- Jump on the pendulum platform on to the piece of solid ground and hit the ? Block for a power-up.
- Continue on to the two pendulums and when you get to the end of the second one, get a running start and jump to reach the high platform holding the first Star Coin.
- Jump down and prepare yourself. There are three Thwomps lining the ceiling of the next area. If you run the whole way without stopping, you can get past them. If you're feeling daring, run past the first two and jump over the small blocks to get past the third one. If you want to play it safe, just bait them by moving close and then run past while they're rising back up.
- Wall jump between the purple blocks and the left wall to reach the top without having to deal with the Thwomp that occupies the right side.
- Head to the right to find a really big Thwomp. Let it crash down three times so that it breaks the blocks below. Jump down to get the first Star Coin. Be sure to stay under the blue blocks when it comes down.
- Continue rightwards and hit the next ? Block for a power-up.
- Be careful as you go past the next three Thwomps. Use the bait and run tactic this time as running past them is a bit too risky since you don't have much of a running start.
- After you pass the large Thwomp you'll reach the half-way marker. Continue to the right and hit the ? Block for another power-up.
- A Fireball will jump out of the second pit, so be wary when you jump.
- The nearby ? Block contains a 1-Up. Hit the block when the pendulum swings near so that it doesn't fall into the fire.
- The third Star Coin will be on a small island below the first pendulum. You don't actually have to get off the platform to reach it. Just be on the left edge of the pendulum when it swings to the right.
- Continue across the pendulums and you'll eventually reach the Boss Doors.
Boss - Giant Goomba
- This boss doesn't do much but walk from side to side, so there isn't much to learn about his attacks or patterns.
- Your strategy here is to hit the ? Switch to cause platforms to appear on both sides of the arena. When you jump on these platforms, you will be raised to a height that allows you to jump over the Goomba and ground pound him.
- If the Goomba is running your way, hide in one of the small holes and crouch to avoid getting trampled.
- Three ground pounds and the Goomba will have had enough.
World 5-1
- YouTube: World 5-1 (Time: 1:47)
- The new enemy you see on the left is a Snow Spike. He will toss small snowballs that will quickly grow in size as they roll across the snow.
- Let the Snow Spike take care of the four Goombas in front of you and then make your way to the right.
- Be careful of the snow falling from the trees. It won't damage you, but it will keep you incapacitated long enough for an opportunistic enemy to run into to you.
- The pool of snow underneath the three ? Blocks will keep you from jumping very high. The middle ? Block holds a power-up, so jump on top of it and ground pound it.
- Continue heading right, stomping the Goombas, leaping over the pits and avoiding the falling snow.
- Kill the next Snow Spike and grab the nearby ? Block for another power-up.
- Your first Star Coin will be hanging over a high branch on a tree. To grab it, jump on the ? Block to the right and jump to the left.
- Instead of going through the deep snow, jump across the ? Blocks. There is a Snow Spike on top of the slope on the right side who will throw hard to avoid snowballs if you're wading through the deep snow.
- A little further to the right and you'll hit the half-way marker. Hit the ? Block for another power-up.
- You'll see your second Star Coin above more deep snow. To get you can either bounce off the Paratroopa or wait for the flying ? Block to come by. Just don't hit the block before it comes within range of the coin.
- Proceed to the right and you'll eventually come across the final Star Coin flying in the air. You can actually get this with a running jump, or you can hit the smiling block a couple of times to give you extra height.
- Hit the smiling block three times to create a barrier that will prevent you from getting hit by the Snow Spike's snowballs. Then jump on top of the blocks, jump on the Snow Spike and continue onwards.
- There is another Snow Spike above who will throw snowballs across the pit. Time your jump so you don't get hit by the snowball.
- Be extra careful of the falling snow here. There are many enemies around and it's very easy to jump into the snow as it's falling. Take your time.
- A little further to the right and you'll be able to end the level.
World 5-2
- YouTube: World 5-2 Normal exit (Time: 2:47)
- YouTube: World 5-2 (Secret exit) (Time: 1:57)
- As always, head into the pipe to truly start off the level.
- If you want a lot of coins, make your way to the top of all of these blocks and run across.
- Otherwise, just run to the right. Once you get to the pit, slow down or you'll run into a Spike Top. Hit the ? Block for a power-up.
- As you probably noticed, the ice here is very slippery. Don't go too fast in this next area or you'll get hit by the bats that come down from the ceiling.
- When you reach the three brick blocks below you, ground pound the one all the way on the left to cause a 1-Up Mushroom to come out. Get through the next step as fast as possible so you can get to the other side and get the 1-Up before it falls into a pit.
- Avoid the Piranhas by ducking and timing your dashes. Don't forget to grab the first Star Coin between the groups of pipes.
- Wall jump off of the right most brick blocks to get into the yellow pipe.
- The coin here will turn into a Coin Purse and will run away as you chase after it. When it gets to the end, use it as a spring board to collect the next Star Coin. Kill the Coin Purse to get a 1-Up and then exit through the pipe.
- Go left and jump on the brick block to hit the ? Block and get a power-up.
- Jump on the spring board when the Spike Tops are on the outer end of the blocks to get the third and final Star Coin.
- In this next area, it doesn't really matter whether you take the top or the bottom path. It's just a matter of whether you'd rather deal with Bats or Spike Tops.
- The next ? Block you see will contain a power-up.
- Continue until your path is blocks by several brick blocks. Go forward as far as you can and then jump to create a path for you to jump through and get on top of the blocks.
- Branching Path: If you want to open up a short cut that will let you skip the next two levels, jump on top of the ice, wait for the piranha in the green pipe to retreat and jump into the pipe yourself. You'll be placed right at an end of level flag pole.
- A little more platforming and you'll reach a pipe on the right side that will take you to the end of the level.
World 5-Tower
- YouTube: World 5-Tower (Time: 2:20)
- You'll be on a wooden elevator for the entire level until the boss. The main concern are spiked balls that will fall on the elevator and attempt to run you over.
- The first Star Coin will be on the right side of the elevator.
- The right most ? Block in the group of two blocks will contain a power-up.
- You don't have to worry too much about Dry Bones. The spiked balls will take them out permanently.
- The second Star Coin will be right in the middle.
- The first ? Block you see after the star coin will have a power-up.
- When the big spiked ball appears, jump on the platforms and stay close to the top.
- The third Star Coin will be waiting on two brick blocks on the right side.
- When a wall appears that separates the two sides, make sure you're on the right.
- The next ? Block will contain a power-up.
- Enter the Boss Doors for another fight against Koopa Jr.
Boss - Koopa Jr. 5
- Koopa Jr. has traded his defense against your jump attack for a small and slippery stage. Falling off here will kill you, so be careful when you try to change direction.
- Even though you're able to jump on him now, you still won't be able to jump on him twice in a row.
- As always, three jumps, 9 fireballs, two ground pounds, or a combination of the three will be enough to send lil' Koopa packing.
World 5-3
- YouTube: World 5-3 (Time: 2:09)
- The first ? Block here has a power-up.
- Ground pound the slope and hold down to go for a nice little ride that will take out all enemies in your way.
- When you run out of steam, you should see a Goomba and a Koopa walking towards you with a platform of ice suspended above. Jump on the Goomba to spring board to the ice above. Here you'll find the first Star Coin. Jump down, but hug the ice wall so you don't fall into the nearby pit.
- Jump across the pits here as you continue rightwards.
- When you reach the half-way marker, hit the ? Block for a power-up.
- Hit the block above the ? Block to create a vine that will take you to a secret platform in the sky.
- Jump across the platforms here and then when you reach the slope, ground pound and hold down to slide across all of the slopes.
- Drop down through the trail of coins. Wall jump off the two walls to reach the second Star Coin.
- Go left to run into a new enemy called Snailicorns. These guys can't be defeated by jumps or fireballs, but they can be moved by jumps. Jump on their heads to try and knock them into a pit.
- Continue to the left, dealing with all of the Snailicorns along the way, and eventually you'll find the last Star Coin.
- Return to the right and you'll soon come to the end of the level.
World 5-Ghost House
- YouTube: World 5-Ghost House Normal exit (Time: 2:49)
- YouTube: World 5-Ghost House Secret exit (Time: 4:56)
- The new enemies here are known as Broozers. They will run towards you and punch away at anything that gets in their path. You can bait them to destroy blocks that are in your way. Three jumps, one fireball, or one butt stomp will take them out.
- The first ? Block you see here will contain a power-up.
- Work your way up the staircases until you get to the part where a Broozer will break four blocks and come down to chase you. Lead the broozer back up the stairs so that he crashes through the blocks on the right. Go through the area he just opened up and wall jump between the two walls to get the first Star Coin.
- Return back up the stairs to where the Broozer first busted through.
- Head up the stairs, to the left, and travel up the long staircase. Before you reach the top though, run back down full speed and try to jump so that you land on the platform at the left with the door.
- Enter the door and immediately jump on to the blocks to your right. Wall jump off the top left platform to land on the top right platform. You might jump on a Broozer. If you do, just keep jumping on it until it dies, allowing you to land on the platform. Collect the second Star Coin and exit through the door at the bottom. You have to be quick with this or the Broozers will destroy the blocks you need. Thankfully, if you need to try again, just exit and reenter the room.
- Head back up the long staircase and let the Broozer destroy the blocks that seal off the ? Block. Kill the Broozer and hit the block for a power-up.
- Head to the left until you reach another staircase with three brick blocks to the left. There is a branching path ahead. If you don't want to take it, skip to ## of this walkthrough.
- Branching Path: Stand on top of the three brick blocks and jump to reveal three hidden blocks. Jump on the middle hidden block, crouch, and jump to reveal a hidden vine. This vine will take you to a secret door that you can access after the Broozer crashes through the blocks.
- After going through the door you will be placed on a haunted elevator that will shake and try to throw you off. After it stops short, it will go into a free fall and will then rise up really fast. While it is rising, hold right against the right wall. You will run into a room that holds the third Star Coin.
- Hit the brick block to cause a vine to emerge. Take the vine up and follow the path to reach a door that will take you to the end of the level.
- End Branching Path
- Run up the long staircase and follow the path up to find yourself on a haunted elevator.
- The elevator will try to shake you off by tilting violently to the left and right. As long as you try to remain in the middle, you should be fine.
- When you reach the top, head left and go through the door that will take you to the end of the level.
World 5-4
- YouTube: World 5-4 (Time: 2:59)
- The yellow mushroom platforms here will go down when you jump on them and the red ones will go up. Keep that in mind as you head through this scrolling level.
- Hit the first ? Block for a power-up.
- As if you had much of a choice, head to the right across the various mushroom platforms while being on the lookout for Bullet Bills.
- When you come across solid land again, hit the ? Block for a power-up.
- Hit the red ring for another chance with the eight red coins.
- After a couple of more platforms, you'll see more solid ground. Jump on the top platform first and get the first Star Coin.
- If you have a Tiny Mushroom, you can go through the small tunnel here and pick up the second Star Coin. If you don't, fall down, get the red Koopa shell, and throw it towards the coin to snag it.
- Continue on until you find more yellow mushroom platforms. The left most ? Block here will have a power-up.
- When you see a green Koopa, take his shell and hold on to it for a bit. Then throw the shell to the right to cause a 1-Up mushroom to emerge out of the ? Block. Follow it down and collect it before it falls off the stage. Be sure to jump over the green shell on its way back though.
- Continue to the right and you'll find the third Star Coin on a lower platform underneath a bridge and two ? Blocks.
- Just a few more mushroom platforms and you'll be at the end of the level.
World 5-A
- YouTube: World 5-A (Time: 2:04)
- Jump on the first blue mushroom platform and hit the ? Block for a power-up.
- As you've probably noticed, these platforms expand and contract. Just to be safe, always aim for the middle of the platform whenever possible.
- Continue jumping across the mushrooms and you'll eventually reach the half-way point and a ? Block with a power-up.
- Jump on the next platform to the right and wait for the mushroom below to expand. Jump on it and run to the right to grab the first Star Coin. Hit the red switch and run across the newly visible platforms to return to solid ground.
- Continue heading right and jump to the next mushroom platform. Use the Koopa here as a springboard to hit the block above and cause a vine to emerge.
- Climb the vine to arrive at a secret room where you'll find a P-Switch and a spring. Hit the switch and jump on the spring to land on the row of blocks at the top, allowing you to jump and grab the second Star Coin. Fall down through the gap on the right to return to the main level.
- Keep on moving to the right across the various mushroom platforms. The first brick block you see will contain a 1-Up.
- Below the next two platforms will be the third Star Coin. Wait for the mushrooms above to contract, then jump down to the platform below to grab the coin.
- Just a little further to the right and you'll complete the level.
World 5-B
- YouTube: World 5-B Normal exit (Time: 2:16)

- Run across the slippery ice and get the first ? Block for a power-up.
- Keep on heading right until you see the first Star Coin underneath a bridge of ice blocks. If you're small Mario, you can just go through the opening on the left and land on the platform below. Otherwise, just go around the right and grab it.
- Proceed to the right and you'll hit the half-way marker. A little further to the right is a section that is filled with pits, red Koopas, and the second Star Coin up above. Move across the gaps to the right and jump up to the ledge with the ? Block that you can hit for a power-up.
- Jump to the left and stomp the P-Switch to cause the coins to turn into blocks. Run to the right, but take your time so you don't fall between the gaps. Eventually, you'll make it to the end where you'll be able to grab the coin.
- Continue heading right and when the path splits, take the bottom path to find the final Star Coin.
- Head back up to the top path and follow it to the right to find the end of the level.
World 5-C
- YouTube: World 5-C (Time: 2:40)
- Enter the pipe and take care of the Buzzy Beetle that comes down from the blocks above.
- Head to the right to find a Broozer and a ? Block with a power-up. Get the power-up, kill the Broozer with a ground pound and move on.
- The Broozer ahead will make a path by bulldozing away the blocks to your right. Once he breaks through, don't kill him immediately. Jump over him and lure him to the right so that he breaks bricks below the first Star Coin. Grab the coin and then continue heading right.
- Continue right past the first three elevator platforms until you reach a split. Take the lower path and jump on the Buzzy Beetle shell. Grab the shell and throw it to the right to grab the second Star Coin.
- Return to the top path and take it to the right to reach the half-way marker.
- When you see a row of four brick blocks, jump on top of them and break the blocks above. Then jump down and hit the right most block of the four to cause a vine to emerge.
- Climb the vine and head to the right in this new section to find a P-Switch. Hit the switch and quickly jump down to the left side. Lure the Broozer to the left so that he smashes the blocks that impede your collection of the third Star Coin.
- Once you've got the coin, jump down the gap and you'll land right at the doorstep of the end of level flagpole.
World 5-Castle

- Jump on the conveyor belt and hit the ? Block for a power-up.
- Continue to the right, but be wary of the Piranha Plants that occupy the conveyor belts up ahead. Unless you have a fire flower, just jump over them.
- You'll find your first Star Coin on a small platform below two conveyor belts. Get the coin and then jump to the right quickly or the Piranha plant above will make its way down to inhabit the platform.
- Jump across the many platforms with Dry Bones until you reach a platform with two ? Blocks. Hit the left block for a power-up.
- Be careful on this next section as the Piranha plant on the top conveyor belt will fall onto the bottom two conveyors and the Dry Bones that fall on to the bottom belt will move very fast from right to left.
- You'll see the next Star Coin suspended high up in a seemingly out of reach spot. If you wait a little, a springboard will make its way across the conveyor belt which you can use to jump to the platform above. If you miss with the springboard, a large Dry Bones can substitute as a makeshift springboard as well.
- Continue heading right and you'll happen upon a section of ice.
- The ? Block above the conveyor belt will hold a power-up. Wait until the Piranha Plant falls off the belt, or until you hit it with a fireball before you get it.
- A power-up block also awaits nearby. If you want to go to World 7 after defeating this boss, I suggest you use it to try and get a Tiny Mushroom.
- Proceed to the right, but slow down when you reach the nearby ? Block. A giant Piranha plant will fall down from the conveyor above. Jump over it or take it out with fireballs.
- If you have the Tiny Mushroom, jump on top of the next ? Block and then jump on top of the ceiling. Run to the right and you'll eventually reach an opening that lets you fall down on to a conveyor belt, at the end of which you'll find the final Star Coin.
- If you don't have the Tiny Mushroom, just head to the right and jump over all of the Dry Bones that line the path.
Boss - Petey Piranha
- Petey is a very simple minded boss. He'll fly back and forth until he sees you, at which point he will charge down at a 45 degree angle, and fall backwards due to the slippery ice. This gives you the opportunity to ground pound his belly while its vulnerable.
- Simply run back and forth in order to avoid his dive.
- Eventually he'll start jumping around. It's easy to predict where he will land, so just run underneath him.
- 3 stomps and 9 fireballs. If you have a fire flower, you can take him out the first time he botches his landing on a dive.
World 6-1
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 46 - World 6-1 (Time: 2:05)
- Hop over the Bullet Bills and over to the first ? Block where you'll find a power-up.
- Continue to the right and shimmy across the wall to get to the other side. While shimmying you can press up or down to either walk along the top, or hang from the bottom.
- When you get to the other side, head forward and jump on to the next platform. Collect the coins and then wall jump off of the right wall to collect the first Star Coin.
- Head down the steps and wall jump between the walls here for some extra coins and a ? Block with a power-up.
- Jump back down and continue to the right.
- When you reach the end of the tunnel, wall jump off the right and left walls to wind up on the top right ledge.
- Jump to the left ledge to get the second Star Coin. Jump back to the right and hit the ? Block for another power-up.
- Continue to the right and jump off the left wall when you get to the end. Be careful not to run into the Paratroopa up top.
- The ? Block here has another power-up. It seems like they're giving these out like candy is this level.
- Shimmy across the next section, avoiding the Paratroopas as you go.
- Use a Bullet Bill to jump on to the top ledge, then jump over the gap to another platform on the right.
- If you have a Tiny Mushroom you can enter the pipe up here. If you don't, just keep running and collecting all of the coins.
- When you reach the end, drop down and you'll find the end of the level flagpole. Don't touch it yet, as we still need one more Star Coin.
- Head to the left and a couple of steps to shimmy on the edge. Press down and collect the third and final Star Coin for the level.
- Now head back to the right and complete the level.
World 6-2
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 47 - World 6-2 (Time: 4:46)
- Run all the way to the right until you see flying ? Blocks. The second one you see will contain a power-up.
- Eventually you will come to a red pipe. Enter it to start the main level.
- In this level, the water level will rise and fall every couple of seconds, causing the Spinies to rise and fall along with it. Keep that in mind as you go through the level.
- Head to the right until you reach a palm tree. There are two hidden blocks directly above the pine tree, and one of them will make a vine emerge. Climb the vine to reach a platform in the sky. Jump to the next platform and ground pound the brick block to cause a P Switch to appear.
- Jump on the P Switch and jump across the flying ? Blocks, collecting the coins along the way. At the end, there is the first Star Coin.
- When you fall back down, continue to the right and hit the flying ? Blocks for a power-up.
- When you reach the large green pipe, wait for the water to rise and then jump on top of it. Enter the pipe to be shot off to a secret area.
- In this area, you will be on a moving platform and about a hundred of flying ? Blocks will pass overhead. Hit as many as you can and hope that they contain 1-Ups. When you're done, exit through the yellow pipe.
- When you return to the main level, head back to the left to find the second Star Coin suspended in the air. The water level must be high in order for you to reach it, so wait around for a little if you need to.
- Now head back to the right. You eventually hit the half-way marker and will find a power-up block below. Get whatever power-up you desire and then continue heading right.
- You'll see the third Star Coin out of reach below you. To get it, hit the ? Block for a Star, run to the right, drop down, and then run through all of the Spinies below until you reach the coin.
- Head to the right again to reach a yellow pipe that will take you to the end of the level.
World 6-Tower
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 48 - World 6-Tower (Time 2:57)
- These giant spikes are back and this time they're much harder to dodge.
- Jump past the first one and hit the ? Block for a power-up.
- Continue your way upwards past the next spike, but when you jump on to the next platform, use small jumps so you don't hit the spike above you.
- On the third spike, if you don't feel like you're going to make it without getting hit, duck into the small opening on the bottom and wait for the spike to retract again.
- On the fourth spike, run all the way to the left and jump to get the first Star Coin. Then crouch to avoid the spike.
- Continue heading up and you'll soon hit the half-way marker. The ? Block above contains a power-up. You can get it by bouncing off the large Dry Bones.
- Quickly make your way up the platforms when the spikes retract, but stop on the one below the long platform with the springboard.
- When the spikes above retract, jump on the platform and quickly jump on the springboard.
- Continue your way upwards until you reach a door.
- Enter the door and once again quickly make your way up the platforms before the spikes activate again. Once you reach the top, wait for the spikes to retract and then jump to the left to get the second Star Coin.
- Exit through the door and you'll wind up right at the Boss Doors.
- If you have a Tiny Mushroom, this next part is easy. Just jump to the right wall and wall jump to the left ledge. If you don't have a Tiny Mushroom, you can still reach the ledge by jumping off the Dry Bones and then wall jumping a couple of times between the right wall and the ledge on the left.
- There is a secret block near the pipe containing a 1-Up Mushroom. Jump around to find it and then enter the pipe.
- In this next area, wait for the spikes to retract and then jump for the top middle platform and crouch. Make sure you are at the middle of the platform when you crouch or you'll still be hit by one of the spikes.
- When the spikes retract again, get the coin on the left and then quickly drop down to the pipe to exit.
- Return to the Boss Doors and enter to fight Koopa Jr. once again.
Boss - Koopa Jr. #6
- He's basically the same as he's always been, except this time you're fighting on a platform that tilts.
- Once again, he will hide in his shell after you jump on him once, so just do one jump at a time.
- As always, three jumps, two stomps, nine fireballs, or a combination will put him down.
World 6-3
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 49 - World 6-3 (Time 4:00)
- Hit the spiked ? Block when the spikes are facing up for a power-up.
- Avoid the fire spitting piranha plants as you make your way to the right.
- Hit the ? Block on the string to make it stop moving and then use it to get the first Star Coin.
- Continue on and enter the red pipe.
- Run across the rotating logs to the other side, grabbing the eight red coins along the way for a 1-Up. Exit through the red pipe.
- Jump two pipes over to the right and enter to find the second Star Coin. Go back through the pipe to exit.
- Head all the way to the right and enter the last pipe.
- Once again, run across the rotating logs, but this time be wary of Piranha plants. If you have a fire flower, throw some fireballs as you're running. Exit through the green pipe at the end.
- Hit the ? Block when the spikes are facing upwards again for another power-up. Go on top of the block and jump to the left to jump over the pipe and get the third Star Coin. Wall jump to get back over the green pipe.
- If you haven't triggered it by now, the coin to your right will turn into a Coin Purse. Chase after it and jump on it three times for a 1-Up.
- Continue to the right past some easy platforming sections and more piranhas and you'll end the level.
World 6-4
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 50 - World 6-4 (Time 2:59)
- Hit the first ? Block for a power-up.
- Go past the Firebar and jump off the first wall to the right to land on the ledge to your left. Jump to the right and grab the first Star Coin.
- Jump down to the ledge to your right and shimmy across the cliff. You can avoid the first two Firebars by simply pressing down to hang off the ledge. The last two can be avoided by first shimmying past them and then hanging to avoid the top firebar while it is on its way back.
- Hit the ? Block for a power-up.
- More cliffs and Firebars await to the right, but they should be easy to avoid.
- Eventually you'll fall down and find another ? Block containing a power-up.
- Jump between the two small Firebars when they swing around the outside, and then wait on the next platform for the large Firebar to swing around before you jump to the next platform on the right.
- Move all the way to the right. Your goal here is to jump up the two ledges on your right, jump to the left wall, and wall jump to the high right platform.
- Be careful not to be in a rush because the firebar to your right is very large. Wait for it to pass and then run to the right. Wait for it to pass again, then wall jump off the right wall to the middle platform and finally jump to the ledge on the right.
- When the Firebar passes, jump to the middle platform again and then jump to the left to find the second Star Coin. Return to the right and enter the red pipe.
- Continue heading right until you see that the ledges are able to take you either up or down. Take the high path into the green pipe.
- Work your way to the right, jumping over the small firebars as they swing around. You'll find the third Star Coin all the way to the right.
- Now go on the lower path and head left. You can hang off the cliff to avoid the Firebars. Enter the yellow pipe.
- Just enter the green pipe and you'll be able to end the level.
World 6-Tower 2
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 51 - World 6-Tower 2 (Time 3:48)
- Lots of conveyor belts in this level. Jump on the Dry Bones to land on the first conveyor belt and jump on the others to reach a ? Block with a power-up.
- Jump the conveyor belt on the left and then jump to the small platform above.
- Continue working your way upwards until you reach a conveyor belt that is interrupted by two small platforms with spikes. Jump over the spikes and you'll find the first Star Coin to your right. Take care when trying to get the coin or you'll run head first into the spikes. As soon as you get the coin, start running the other way.
- Jump to the conveyor belts above and then jump to the left to the platform where the Dry Bones resides.
- Continue your way up by jumping on the platforms to the left and then to the string of conveyors to the right.
- The brick block on the right side will contain a power-up.
- Make your way up the conveyor belts on the left, avoiding the Dry Bones that fall down as you go.
- Eventually you'll find two green pipes. Enter the left one for some coins and the right one to be shot into the next section.
- While you're in the air from the pipe, hold left to land to land on a platform with more conveyor belts and Spike Tops.
- Get on the conveyor belt and crouch. When you're under the brick blocks, jump to get the second Star Coin.
- Jump up to the conveyor belt above and then make your way up the stairs. The ? Block here will contain a power-up.
- Jump on the rope and move to the right to collect the third and final Star Coin for the level.
- Drop down and duck to avoid the spikes as you move across the conveyor belt.
- Jump up to the next platform and head left to find the Boss Doors.
Boss - Koopa Jr. 7
- This time you're still on a tilting platform, but he won't let you jump on him again.
- He will instead throw shells at you, so jump on the shells and then throw them back. This will cause him to fall on his back, allowing you to jump over him and ground pound his belly.
- Two ground pounds or nine fireballs will take him out.
World 6-5
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 53 - World 6-5 (Time 3:37)
- Another underwater level. Enter the pipe to give it a shot.
- As always, a new underwater level means a new underwater enemy. This time it is the green Cheep Cheeps. They act like the large purple Cheep Cheeps from an earlier level, only they're normal size and can't kill you in one hit. They make up for that by being much more numerous. One fireball will take out any size.
- The first ? Block you see will contain a power-up. Hopefully it is a fire flower.
- The first Star Coin will be in plain view as you're heading to the right.
- The vortexes in this level will try to suck Mario into the pit below, but you can fight against it by continuously swimming. You'll be unable to move, but at least you won't get sucked under. If you wait a little the vortex will dissipate on its own.
- You'll soon hit the half-way marker and a power-up from the left most ? Block.
- Now comes the fun part. When you see a ? Block that is slightly camouflaged by a piece of seaweed, hit it for a Star. The next three ? Blocks will contain Stars, so you can keep the invincibility going for quite a while.
- When you see a yellow pipe above, swim into it to find the next Star Coin guarded by a school of green Cheep Cheeps. Exit the same way you came in.
- Continue to the right until you see a vortex that has brick blocks at the sides of the pit. Let the vortex take you under to reach a secret area where you'll find the last Star Coin.
- Avoid the huge Cheep Cheeps and exit through the green pipe to reach the end of level flagpole.
World 6-6
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 54 - World 6-6 (Time 4:34)
- Jump on the spring to fly up and reach the ? Block on the left for a power-up.
- Come back down and jump on the spring again. Ignore the Chain Chomp and fly over it to the right where you'll find another spring.
- Jump on the spring and hold down over the brick blocks to break through all of them. The one at the very bottom holds a bunch of coins and another power-up.
- Jump on the spring again and get on the ledge to your right. Jump on the next spring and head all the way to the left.
- Once again, jump on the next spring and veer to the left so that you're over the brick blocks. Crash through all of the bricks to cause a P Switch to emerge from the last one. Hit the switch to turn the blocks into coins, allowing you to grab the first Star Coin on the left.
- Jump on the spring and land on the platform on the left. Stomp on the ? Block for a power-up.
- Jump on the spring and go to the platform on the left. On top of the Chain Chomp's stake is the second Star Coin.
- Go back to the spring and launch to the right this time. You'll activate the half-way marker as you fly over the ledge.
- Work your way down, and when you see the red ring, jump all the way to the left. You should land on or near a bunch of brick blocks. Ground pound through them to reach a spring.
- Launch off the spring to get to the platform on the right.
- Hit the ? Block for a power-up, and then ground pound through the blocks to get to another spring.
- Launch off the spring and veer to the right.
- Your goal here is to bounce off the Paratroopa so that you hit the P Block. Doing so will turn the blocks on the right into coins, which will allow you to enter the green pipe.
- Once you're in the green pipe, launch off the spring to land on the ledge to your left. Jump to your right and bounce off the walls of the pipe to collect the third Star Coin and as many regular coins as you can.
- Exit through the yellow pipe at the bottom.
- Jump to the right and enter the lone green pipe. The pipe will shoot you up to the platform on the left.
- Enter the next green pipe and you'll be shot up. Hold left to land on another green pipe. Continue this process until you reach the top.
- Enter the third pipe from the left to be shot to the highest point of the flagpole and earn a 1-Up as you end the level.
World 6-A
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 55 - World 6-A (Time 2:28)
- Hit the ? Block and grab the power-up. If its a fire flower, take out the lakitu but don't use his cloud. It's slower than the flying method your about to use.
- Jump into the tornado and follow the coins to the right to grab the first Star Coin.
- When you get the coin, press down to come back down to the ground. Move a few steps to the right and you'll see two tall rock formations with quicksand in the middle. Let this quicksand take you all the way down to reach a secret area.
- Wall jump off the sides here to grab the second Star Coin then make your way to the yellow pipe on the right side.
- When you reemerge, grab the ? Block on the left for a power-up.
- Continue heading right until you reach several multicolored pipes. Enter the yellow pipe on the right first.
- Either kill or jump over the huge Piranha and grab the third Star Coin. Exit through the pipe on the left.
- Jump into the green pipe right next to you in order to be launched to the right.
- Just a few more platforms and you'll reach the pipe and at the very end.
- Once you enter the pipe, just head to the right and you'll find the end of the level.
World 6-B
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 56 - World 6-B (Time 2:42)
- Enter the right most pipe and hold right to land on the plateau above.
- Swing across the first three ropes and then wait before you jump to the fourth.
- The first Star Coin is suspended below out of reach of Mario's grasp. To get it, stomp the red Koopa on the slope and throw its shell at the coin to obtain it.
- Jump to the rope and swing to the ledge on the right.
- Hit the left ? Block for a power-up.
- Jump across the next three purple platforms and you'll eventually come to a pipe. Before you go into the pipe, know that there will be a Paratroopa on the left that you must bounce off of in order to grab the second Star Coin. Grab the coin, fall back down and enter the pipe again to land on the ledge on the right.
- Jump over the two Piranhas and head down the slope. Continue across the three mushroom platforms and jump on to the big ice block structure to find a power-up block.
- Continue to the right and you'll find three green pipes. Enter the second one to be shot through a line of coins.
- Keep on going right until you reach another moving rope. Jump to the second rope and wait until it takes you high enough to land on the ice blocks on the right. Jump to the ice blocks and then crouch slide as soon as you land to grab the third Star Coin.
- Just a little further to the right and you'll come to the end of the level.
World 6-Castle
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 57 - World 6-Castle (Time 3:36)
- Wait for the platform to emerge from the right, then jump on it and grab the power-up from the ? Block.
- Jump to the top of the platform and then jump to the sliding platform when it emerges on the right.
- Work your way to the right until you reach the spot with three ? Blocks and a red Koopa. Use the Koopa shell to hit the ? Block on the right for a power-up.
- Jump on the platform to your right and you'll see the first Star Coin seemingly out of reach. Jump on the platform with the Red Koopa and use its shell to hit the coin when the sliding platform on the bottom is on the right side.
- The second Star Coin will be a little further to the right between two sliding platforms. Jump to the bottom platform when its full extended on the left side. It won't slide all the way to the right so you don't have to worry about falling off. Just let it take you into the coin. When the coin is yours, jump to the top of the platform.
- Continue to the right and you'll eventually reach solid ground.
- The ? Block nearby contains a power-up.
- Jump on the ? Block and wall jump off the left wall to reach the platform above. Use the Koopa to the right as a springboard to try and get on top of the sandwiching block to the right. Once you do, run all the way to the right to find the final Star Coin.
- Head all the way back to lower platform where the ? Block was.
- Jump on the sliding platform and ride it to the right so that you can jump in between the sandwiching blocks when they are separated.
- Pound the brick block for coins and a mushroom.
- Take your time as you cross the bridge, moving between the gaps to avoid getting sandwiched between the blocks and the spikes.
- Enter the door at the end.
- Jump up the moving platforms here to find the Boss Doors at the top.
Boss: Monty Mole Tank
- There are two main concerns with this boss: Bullet Bills and Bob-Ombs.
- The tank will drive from left to right shooting Bullet Bills from it's main turrets. Every now and then, Monty will come out himself and start throwing Bob-ombs at you. These Bob-ombs are already armed so you don't have to actually jump on them. Just pick them up with Y.
- When Monty sticks his head out, that's your cue to jump over him and ground pound his head.
- Doing so will cause the tank to spin wildly and shoot bullet bills from both sides. They fire without much warning, so do your best to predict them and jump accordingly.
- TIP: You can duck under the lowest turret, so don't worry about jumping over it.
- After getting hit, he will add more turrets to the tank, making it harder to reach him when he pops his head out.
- To reach him when he has three turrets, you can either jump on the turrets themselves, or you can use the Bullet Bills as spring boards.
- It should only take two ground pounds to finish the mole off. You can also throw the Bob-ombs back at him to make things go a little faster.
World 7
- Note: You can only visit World 7 if you defeated the boss of World 5 with a Tiny Mushroom or you used the warp canon from World 4.
World 7-1
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 58 - World 7-1 (Time 5:43)
- Jump to the platform on the right to start your cruise.
- The lone ? Block you see will contain a power-up.
- When the platform reaches the end of the line, jump on to the next one.
- You'll see the first Star Coin below you as you ride the platform. Ignore it for now and keep with the platform even after it reaches the end. It'll fall onto another line that will take you to the coin and back.
- Head to the right and immediately use the brick block as a stepping stone to jump on top of the flying ? Block. Ride the block all the way to the right to find a pipe that will take you to the location of the second Star Coin. There is also a 1-Up at the top right corner of this room. Leave through the pipe on the right when you're done.
- Continue across the platforms to the right, eliminating all of the Fire Chomps in the way. Fire Chomps simply fly around and shoot fireballs at you while they still have a firetail. Jumping on their head or hitting them with a fireball will do the trick.
- After some more platforming, you'll eventually reach a pipe that will take you to the end of the level.
- NOTE: You may have noticed that you only collected 2 Star Coins in this level. This is because it is impossible to collect all three in one run. To get the third coin, go back through the level, and this time don't jump on the flying ? Block. Ride the platforms to the end and you'll find a pipe that will take you to the half-way marker.
- To the right you'll find two platforms that you can jump to. Jump on the top platform and ride it to find the last Star Coin.
World 7-Ghost House
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 59 - World 7-Ghost House (Time 2:24)
- The ? Block contains a power-up, but the block you really want to hit is the left most brick block.
- Hit the ? Switch that comes out to bring up the five doors that make up this level.
- Enter the top door. Go to the left side of this room and ground pound until you reach the first Star Coin. Hit the switch on the right to bring up the door that will take you back to the hub room.
- Next enter the west door and jump across the wavy floor to get the second Star Coin. Leave through the door to return to the hub.
- Now enter the southeast door and jump where you see the hands pointing. Once the switch is revealed, run to the right, grab the spring, and hit the switch.
- Jump up the platforms the appear on the right and enter the door.
- Branching Path: Hit the P-Switch above and run to the left. Keep an eye out for a shimmering brick block up top. Once you hit it, quickly get on the vine before the P-Switch runs out and turns the blocks back into coins. Once you reach the top, enter the door and end the level.
- Hit the P-Switch above and run to the right as fast as you can. If you're quick enough, you can jump on the blocks at the end to reach the top ledge where you'll find the last Star Coin. Once you get it, jump down and enter the door on the right to get to the end of the level.
World 7-2
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 60 - World 7-2 (Time 3:21)
- Enter the pipe on the right to start off this new level.
- Jump on the platform on the left. It will constantly move upwards, but by moving to the left and the right, you can control its horizontal movement. Going to the ends of the screen will cause you to come out of the opposite end, so keep that in mind.
- Use the red Koopa shell above to try and knock all of the green Paratroopas out in one shot for a 1-Up.
- The left most ? Block above will contain a power-up.
- The first Star Coin will be caged in a group of brick blocks on the right side.
- The reward for the upcoming red coin ring is a 1-Up.
- When you reach the half-way marker, use a Koopa Shell to get the power up on the left side.
- The next Star Coin is also on the right side, but this time it can only be grabbed by throwing a Koopa shell on the left side so that it breaks the blocks on the right side. You don't have to worry about going down yourself to get the coin; the shell will do it for you.
- The last Star Coin will be on the left side, guarded by a bunch of Paratroopas.
- Exit through the pipe on the right and you'll come to the end of the level.
World 7-3
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 61 - World 7-3 (Time 2:57)
- Ignore the Wigglers but don't ignore the ? Block that contains a power-up. Head into the green pipe at the end when you're ready.
- Hop on the giant Wiggler and let him take you all the way to the end of the level.
- When you reach a group of brick blocks, hit the fourth one for a power-up.
- You'll find the first Star Coin on top of a bunch of blocks guarded by a Boomerang Bro. Hit the block below to knock him off and then jump on top of the blocks to grab the coin.
- The next ? Block you see will contain a Star. If you hit all of the ? Block coming up while you have the Star activated, you'll cause more stars to appear, allowing you to keep the invulnerability going for the remainder of the level.
- Just don't neglect to grab the second Star Coin that is suspended high above three blocks.
- Enter the pipe at the end, but before ending the level, ground pound the top brick block to cause a vine to grow downwards. Follow the vine to find the last Star Coin over on the right.
- Head back up and jump on the flagpole to end the level.
World 7-Tower
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 62 - World 7-Tower (Time 4:13)
- The third brick block here will contain a power-up.
- Head to the right and start jumping up the platforms.
- Enter the red pipe on the left.
- Work your way upwards, past the sandwiching spike blocks, and then fall down the gap to your right when both blocks below have retracted all the way for the first Star Coin.
- Continue working your way up. The second ? Block from the left in the nearby row of blocks will contain a power-up.
- In the next area, you have to place your self a little bit to the left of the middle on the block to your left, crouch when it moves to the right to avoid the spikes and then jump on to the next platform to your right.
- Crouch as the platform moves to the right, and then try to get to the right side of the platform as it moves to the left, but crouch to avoid the spikes. If it's safe, stand up and jump to the platform on your left.
- For the next obstacle, jump on the moving platform and when it moves to the right, jump up to the small ledge above, hit the ? Block for a power-up and wait for the platform to move back to the left. When it does, jump between the two spikes, which will allow you to jump to the platforms on your right.
- Quickly use the platforms on the right as steps to make it to the top where you'll find a door leading you to the next area.
- The fourth brick block here will contain a power-up. Get it, and then enter the door on the right.
- Jump on to the elevator platform and take it up to hit the ? Block for a power-up.
- Take your time and move between the spike blocks to make it to the left side and then jump on top of the blocks to move upwards.
- The next Star Coin will be in clear view on the right side. Move across the blocks without jumping to get it without hitting the spikes up top.
- Continue upwards until you reach more spike blocks.
- This part is tricky. Jump on the blue platforms and wait for the blocks to make the shape of a cross. Once they separate, move on to the left platform and wait for the bottom right platform to move to the left. Once it does, quickly run on to it. Stay there until it moves to the right.
- Move off the platform to the little ledge on the right and wait for the top right platform to come down. Jump on the top left platform once it moves to the right and then quickly move on to the solid ground on your left.
- This next part is easy. Just make your way to the Boss Doors, wait for the blocks to retract, and then get the last Star Coin to the left.
- Return to the Boss Doors and enter to once again fight Koopa Jr.
Boss - Koopa Jr 8
- The only difference this time is that the platform is moving slowly from left to right.
- He still will stuff any attempts to jump on him, so throw his Koopa shells back at him and give him a nice ground pound to the belly.
- You should be a pro at this by now, so this shouldn't be very difficult.
World 7-4
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 62 - World 7-4 (Time 2:49)
- Hit the two ? Blocks for a power-up and then make your way all the way to the right.
- Make your way up by use of the springs and you'll find the first Star Coin floating above a red and yellow mushroom platform.
- Jump on the spring to your right and launch up with the aim of bouncing off the pink mushroom to your left. Head to the mushroom platform on the left to find the second Star Coin.
- Jump on the next spring to your left and make your way upwards by veering to the left and bouncing off of the next two pink mushrooms.
- Work your way up to find another spring that you can use to launch yourself upwards and towards the left. Bounce off of the pink mushroom and head towards the right to find the final Star Coin.
- Branching Path: If you have a Mini Mushroom, you can go into an alternate route by launching yourself to the left instead of the right after bouncing off the pink mushroom. Jump on to the flying ? Block, then jump into the small gap in the wall, jump over the wall and then head into the small pipe to find a separate end of the level flagpole.
- Continue following the trail of coins to your right after collecting the final star coin to reach a pipe that will take you to the next area.
- Launch off the two springs and then take out the three brick blocks on the right side, but veer to the left once they're gone so you don't hit the block at the bottom. Once you're on the ground, jump and hit the brick block to cause a vine to rise up. Climb the vine to reach a secret area where you can earn a whole lot of coins and extra lives.
- Once you're done, exit through the pipe and you'll be at the end of the level.
World 7-5
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 63 - World 7-5 (Time 3:19)
- Nothing much new in this level. Proceed heading right, past the first group of ? Blocks and hit the middle block in the next group for a power-up.
- Keep going right and you'll find the first Star Coin up above along with a Bob-omb. Jump on one of the lower Bullet Bills to hit the block that the Bob-omb is standing on to make it explode, allowing you to jump on another Bullet Bill to reach the coin.
- Continue to the right and you'll find a small pipe that is blocked by a block. If you have a Tiny Mushroom, use a Bob-omb to break the block and enter the pipe. Once inside, make your way to the right side of the room where you'll find a block with a Mega Mushroom that you can use to push the pipe to the side, allowing you to grab the second Star Coin.
- Whether you used the mini pipe or not, just continue heading right until you reach a cage of blocks. Hit the ? Block at the bottom for a power-up.
- A little further to the right and you'll find the last Star Coin in between two Bullet Bill towers.
- Branching Path: When you come to a spot with a bunch of blocks resting over a pipe, use the two Bob-ombs nearby to clear a path to the pipe. You can do this by placing the first Bob-omb next the second block on the second row and the second Bob-omb on top of the block that is covering the pipe. Enter the pipe to find the alternate end of level flagpole.
- Jump over the giant Bullet Bill canon and you'll be able to end the level.
World 7-6
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 64 - World 7-6 (Time 2:56)
- Once again, not much new in this level. Just a lot of Paratroopas.
- Hit the first ? Block for a power-up and continue making your way to the right.
- You'll travel for a while before anything of note happens, but once you reach the halfway marker, you'll have a choice to make.
- Branching Path: Hit the ? Block for a power-up, then proceed to break the rest of the blocks on the top row. The middle block on the bottom row contains a vine that you should climb to reach a secret area. Jump on the mushroom and let it take you all the way to the right where you'll find the first Star Coin. Exit through the pipe at the end to find yourself at the exit of the level.
- If you didn't take the branching path, continue to the right and you'll find the second Star Coin in between two platforms and guarded by two Paratroopas. Jump in from the bottom and take care of the Paratroopas first. Once they're dead, grab the coin.
- Continue to the right and enter the yellow pipe ahead.
- In this secret area, you can get the ? Blocks if you want, but your eventual goal is to jump across the three Paratroopas on the right to get to the pipe on the right side.
- After emerging from the pipe, simply jump to get the final Star Coin.
- Proceed to your right, past the seemingly hundreds of Paratroopas to reach the end of the level.
World 7-7
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 65 - World 7-7 (Time 2:44)
- Head to the right and hit the ? Block near the bottom for a power-up.
- Jump on the platforms of the wheel to make it move along the line. Make sure to get rid of the Koopa or he'll be an annoyance. Collect the first Star Coin at the end of the line.
- Work your way to the top platform and throw the Koopa shell to the right to hit the blocks below and earn yourself a 1-Up.
- Proceed to the right and you'll eventually reach a platform that will cause the level to scroll upwards as opposed from left to right.
- When you reach the top of this platform you'll notice the second Star Coin hanging below two donut platforms. Wait on the donut platforms until they fall and then wall jump off the right wall to return to safety.
- Head left to reach the half-way marker and a ? Block containing a power-up.
- Make your way upwards until you reach the top two donut platforms. Wait a little, but keep jumping to keep the platforms afloat. Eventually you'll see the final Star Coin within reach of a jump.
- Continue heading to the right until you reach another wheel. You'll have to be quick making this wheel move or the scrolling screen will catch up to you. Once you reach the end of the line, you'll also reach the end of the level.
World 7-A
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 66 - World 7-A (Time 3:00)
- Just have to say that I personally love this level. Enter the pipe to start things off.
- Head to the horizontal green pipe on the right and jump around under its entrance to reveal two hidden blocks that will let you enter and grab the first Star Coin. Head back out once you get the coin.
- Kill the Squiggler if you haven't already and enter the pipe that it used to call its home.
- Enter the pipe on the left and hit the left ? Block for a power-up.
- Move all the way to the right and enter the pipe at the end to get launched into the air. On the way down, hug the right wall and try to wall jump into the pipe on the left. This will take you to a secret area where you can grab the second Star Coin.
- Once you return, jump on to the blue platform, kill the Squiggler and enter through the pipe on the left that is above the platform.
- Jump between the gaps of the platforms above to reveal hidden blocks. Use these new blocks to make it up to the yellow platform.
- Jump across the small pipes towards the left while being wary of the Piranhas and Squigglers inside.
- When you reach the last pipe, wait for the Piranha above to retract and then jump into the pipe above.
- Run to the right and hit the ? Block for a Tiny Mushroom. Now run back to the left and wall jump between the small gap to reach a small pipe that will take you to a room with the third Star Coin.
- Exit through the large pipe on the right.
- Be careful of the Piranhas here since they're a little tough to avoid and it will only take one hit to kill you in this form. Make your way to the right and hit the blocks with the faces three times to make a platform large enough for you to enter the pipe on the right.
- Head to the right and you'll have beaten the level!
World 7-Castle
- YouTube: New Super Mario Bros DS Walkthrough - Part 67 - World 7-Castle (Time 3:33)
- Head all the way to the right to find a new type of platform that will move over the pit below, constantly changing its size and shape while retaining the same number of blocks.
- Avoid the two Amps and grab the first Star Coin overhead. Make sure to veer backwards after getting the coin because the platform won't extend farther out to catch you.
- Hit the next ? Block for a power-up.
- Don't bait the thwomps in this level; just run past them.
- When the green platform reaches the end, jump on solid ground and continue heading right. Here you'll find the half-way marker and another ? Block for a power-up.
- Jump on the next green platform for another ride.
- Remember that the only part that can hurt you on the spiked balls and chains is the actual ball. Use this to your advantage by standing on the block that the ball orbits around while you wait for the platform to come back.
- The second Star Coin waits for you on a low platform that hosts a spiked ball. When the green platform passes over it, jump on to the small block to grab the coin and then wait for the platform to return from the left side of the screen.
- The next ? Block you see will contain a power-up.
- You can tell when the flame jets are about to ignite by the embers that appear at their base, so use this to time your passes and avoid getting set on fire.
- At the end of the trip, you'll see the last Star Coin suspended over the pit below. To get it, wait on the right most block on the green platform and when they all start to fall, jump so that you can grab the coin and land on the platform to your right.
- Enter the Boss Doors and get ready for your next boss fight.
Boss - Lakithunder
- As you might expect from a Lakitu, Lakithunder's main attack involves him tossing Spinies towards you. They can come at you pretty fast, so be ready to jump whenever he pulls one out. Having a fire flower makes this battle much easier since you can just kill the Spinies when they land.
- You're opening to attack him comes when he swoops down and tries to ram you. Just jump up and ground pound him to deal a ton of damage.
- All it takes is three regular jumps, two ground pounds, or one jump and one ground pound to take Lakithunder out and proceed to the final world.
World 8-1
- YouTube: World 8-1 (Time: 2:23)
- This is where things start to get a little tough, so take your time in this level. There are a lot of enemies that will be thrown at you at once.
- Proceed to the right and pick up the power-up from the second ? Block you see.
- Continue to the right, but be wary of the birds when trying to make your jumps across platforms. If there are too many in the air, wait for a few to swoop down before proceeding.
- Hit the ? Block to the left of the two brick blocks for another power-up.
- When you reach a ? Block that is suspended above two regular blocks, hit it to reveal a spring. Pick up the spring and place it on top of the two blocks to the right. Jump on the spring to get the first Star Coin.
- Continue to the right to hit the half-way marker and another ? Block with a power-up.
- Proceed past the three Bullet Bill cannons and you'll see the second Star Coin high above. Use a Bullet Bill to bounce up high enough and grab it.
- The final Star Coin is a few steps more to the right on a low platform near a giant Bullet Bill cannon.
- Just over the cannon is the end of the level.
World 8-2
- YouTube: World 8-2 (Time: 3:05)
- Enter the pipe to start the level off.
- Swim to the ? Switch and raise the water level. Swim all the way to the top, but be careful to avoid the bombs that the Skeeters drop.
- Get the power-up on the right and then enter the pipe.
- Jump across the barrels to the left, hit the switch, jump across the barrels to the right and enter the pipe.
- Snag the power-up in the ? Block to the right. Go right underneath the block and ground pound all the way down to the very bottom. If you lined yourself up right, you'll go right through the first Star Coin. Exit through the pipe on the right.
- Hit the ? Switch to raise the water level again. This next part is tricky, but you want to try to bounce off a Skeeter to grab the Star Coin above. You can do this by simply jumping on it when it's in the middle, or jumping off it when it's near the sides and then wall jump to grab the coin.
- Hit the ? Switch again to raise the water and this time exit through the smaller pipe on the right side.
- Hit the ? Switch in this room and go up the right side to find the final Star Coin.
- Raise the water level one more time and go up the right side to find a pipe that will take you to the end of the level.
World 8-Tower
- YouTube: World 8-Tower (Time: 4:40)
- Wait for the sliding platform to come to the right, then jump on it and grab the power-up from the ? Block.
- Continue making your way upwards and when you reach the second platform, jump on the left side to find the first Star Coin on a small platform.
- When you reach a large sliding platform, you'll see another ? Block containing a power-up.
- Jump up to the ledge on your right and crouch to let the sliding platform on your left push you under the spikes.
- Jump to ledge on your left and wait for the sliding platform. Jump on the sliding platform and crouch to make it over to the left side. Be sure that no Spike Tops are around when you hop on to the platform.
- Jump up and wait for the top sliding platform to move all the way to the left before you jump and grab the second Star Coin. Jump to the ledge to your right and crouch to let the block push you underneath the small opening.
- Continue making your way upwards and you'll eventually find the Boss Doors. Before entering through them, jump around the area to hit a couple of hidden blocks. If you jump down and then jump back up, you should cause a flying ? block to appear. Jump on top of the block, then jump on to one of the hidden blocks and you should be able to reach the third Star Coin.
- Enter the Boss Doors to fight Koopa Jr. once again.
Boss - Koopa Jr. 9
- This time your battlefield is very small and flames erupt from both edges. Don't worry, it's still more than enough room to jump over his dashes.
- I hate to sound so repetitive, but these battles with Koopa Jr just offer no diversity. Jump over him when he dashes, jump on the Koopa shell, throw it back at him, and ground pound his belly twice. Or you could simply force feed him nine fireballs.
World 8-3
- YouTube: World 8-3 (Time: 3:08)
- Head into the pipe to start this new underwater level.
- Hit the ? Block for a power-up and avoid the circular objects as they will bounce you around and stun you.
- Make your way upwards but be wary of your old friends the Eels.
- Keep going up until you reach the halfway marker where you'll be met with a ? Block containing a power-up and a gigantic Eel.
- The Eel will chase you throughout the rest of the level, so continue heading right at a reasonable pace. You can use the pipes that blow bubbles as small boosts to keep yourself far away from the eel.
- You'll find the first Star Coin on the bottom half of the level sitting on a step.
- As soon as you get the first Star Coin, start swimming up to the top half of the level to find the second Star Coin above some brick blocks that you can break by simply swimming into them.
- The final Star Coin is near the end of the level on the bottom half of the screen. You'll find it in between a couple of blocks and a green pipe. You have to be fast to grab it because the Eel is likely to be right on your tail.
- At the end you can exit through either the red pipe on top or the green pipe on the bottom. The red pipe will put you in a better position to grab a 1-Up from the end of level flagpole, but either one will take you to the end of the level.
World 8-4
- YouTube: World 8-4 (Time: 2:27)
- Scuttlebugs everywhere! The spiders will start falling from random places all throughout this level, so be on the cautious side.
- Hit the ? Block to the right for a power-up and continue heading right.
- You'll find the first Star Coin on a high platform that you can reach by getting a running start and jumping off of the three blocks to the left.
- When you reach the half-way marker, grab the next ? Block for a power-up.
- The second Star Coin is in plain sight, suspended in the sky over the last elevator platform. Simply jump when the platform rises to its highest to snag it.
- The third Star Coin can only be obtained with a Mini Mushroom. If you have one, enter the small pipe underneath the moving platforms. Once in side, hit the ? Block for a Star, then quickly run to the right side of the room and hit the other ? Block for another Star. Jump on to the top platform and run through all of the mini Goombas to collect the final coin.
- Once you reemerge from the pipe, its only a few more platforms to the right and you'll have beaten the level.
World 8-Castle
- YouTube: World 8-Castle (Time: 2:47)
- Hitting the red and yellow switches in this level will cause the platform to switch from the top track to the bottom or vice versa. Right now it doesn't matter, so just jump to the right.
- Hit the block here to cause the platform to appear on the bottom track. Ride it over to the next platform and then hit the block over there to make the platform appear on the top track. Ride it back to the left and grab the first Star Coin.
- Return to the right and hit the ? Block for a power-up.
- When you reach the platform with the Dry Bones, make sure that the platform is on the top track. Jump on it and let it ride all the way to the end to fall on the bottom track and pick up the second Star Coin.
- Jump back to the platform on the left and hit the red block again to bring the platform back to the middle track. Jump on the moving platform and ride it to the right.
- When you land on the gray blocks, hit the red block so that the platform on the bottom track appears. Ride the platform to the right, jumping over the ledge that blocks you from staying on the platform.
- Jump across the rope and you'll reach the half-way point. Hit the second ? Block for a power-up.
- Carefully jump across the rotating shape platforms to make it to the boss doors. Before entering, jump on the moving platform below and ride it to the right to get the final Star Coin.
- Note: This platform won't appear unless you hit the switch so that the platform on the bottom track appears in step ##.
- Once the coin is yours, head back and enter the Boss Doors.
Boss - Bone Bowser
- Bone Bowser is pretty much the same as the Bowser you fought in the very first world, except you can't use fireballs on him, and the only way to get past him to hit the switch on the right is to run under him when he jumps.
- He has a total of four types of attacks. He'll throw bones at you, shoot fireballs directly at you, shoot fireballs above you, and jump really high in an attempt to squash you.
- The bones are easily avoided since they are slow and will always have the same distance when thrown. Just run under them or keep your distance.
- His fireballs also move very slowly and can easily be jumped over as long as your not right up in his face.
- The fireballs that he fire above you are mainly used as a feint to get you to think that he's jumping. Just don't jump and they'll never hit you.
- Bone Bowser will usually start off every fight like this: He'll throw bones, shoot one fireball, and then jump. Use this opportunity to run under him and hit the switch on the other side.
- Make sure you have some sort of power-up when you go into this fight so that if he does hit you when he lands after a jump, you can use the short invincibility time to still make it to the switch.
World 8-5
- YouTube: World 8-5 (Time: 2:02)
- </video>
- Work your way to the right and hit the ? Block on the metal platform. These platforms will tilt depending on where you're standing so be careful not to slide into the lava from standing on the end for too long.
- The rock platforms up ahead will fall if you stand on them for too long so quickly make your way across them.
- You'll find the first Star Coin on a rock platform underneath a row of blocks. Grab it and quickly jump back up.
- Continue to the right, using the red Koopa shell to hit the ? Block on the left of the metal platform for a 1-Up.
- The next Star Coin will be to the left of a metal platform. Use one of the Koopa shells to snag it safely.
- Make your way across the many rock platforms quickly while being careful to avoid the many Koopas and fireballs in your path. When you come to the end, get a running jump to make on top of the high rock platform and grab the final Star Coin.
- Exit through the red pipe to end the level.
World 8-6
- YouTube: World 8-6 (Time: 2:15)
- You need to be fast on this level since that lava is rising very quickly. Move to the left to appear on the right side and start working your way up.
- Hit the ? Block on the right for a power-up and then continue jumping from platform to platform to head upwards.
- Jump in the pipe to be shot on to a ledge on the left. Move all the way to the left to appear on the right side and grab the first Star Coin.
- Once you get the coin, head back to where the pipe launched you and continue heading up.
- Hit the ? Block above the red pipe for another power-up.
- Jump on the right most spring to launch yourself up to a ledge in the middle. Run across this ledge to the spring on the left and then launch yourself up once again.
- Use the next spring to get on top of the brick blocks that are covering the second Star Coin.
- Keep on going upwards to avoid having Mario's rump roasted by the lava and you'll eventually come to a section with lots of orange platforms and Spinies that is somewhat reminiscent of the original Mario Bros arcade game.
- You can't jump through these platforms so make your way through the openings until you reach the top.
- On the right side of the green pipe at the top is the third Star Coin. Once you get it, get to the left side by going through the right end of the screen and continue heading up.
- Once you reach the green pipe, you will be shot upwards and can end the level.
World 8-7
- YouTube: World 8-7 (Time: 2:29)
- Jump across the green Paratroopas to reach the platform with the ? Block for a power-up.
- Continue to the right by jumping off the paratroopas and you'll eventually come to a Sledge Bro. If you have a Fire Flower, eliminate him from a distance. Otherwise, get in close and jump on his head in between his hammer throws.
- With the Sledge Bro down, jump on the lower ledge and run across the small gaps to grab the first Star Coin.
- Proceed to the right to find more of the ledges from World 6. Shimmy across them all to the next ledge on the right.
- You'll hit the half-way marker here. Hit the ? Block at the very top for a power-up.
- Head past the red pipe to find two Fiery Bros. These guys are equipped with fire flowers so if you have one too, fight fire with fire. Otherwise, just jump on their heads.
- The second ? Block contains a Star. Use it to plow through the upcoming Paratroopas and the Boomerang Bro as you continue to the right. Collect the second Star Coin once the Boomerang Bro is down.
- The third Star Coin is just a few steps to the right, but it is guarded by another Sledge Bro. You can just stay out of the range of his hammers and eventually he'll kill himself by ground pounding through the blocks. Either way, once he's dead grab the Star Coin by ground pounding through only the first row of blocks.
- Jump through the red ring and grab the first two red coins before entering the green pipe. The pipe will shoot you through the next four coins, allowing you to get the last two once you land on the ledge above.
- Continue to the right and end the level.
World 8-8
- YouTube: World 8-8 (Time: 4:07)
- This level is tough due to the volcano in the background constantly making the screen rain with volcanic rocks. When you see the volcano erupt, try to find some cover by hiding underneath blocks or platforms.
- The new enemies in this level are known as Kab-ombs. If you hit them with a fireball or if they get hit by one of the falling rocks, their bombs will be activated and will start chasing you around in an attempt to take you down with them when they explode. Take them out quickly by jumping on their heads.
- To get the first Star Coin, jump on the bricks to your right and then jump to the platform on your left. Make sure to do this in between volcanic eruptions since being so high doesn't give you much time to react to the falling rocks.
- This next Star Coin is probably the hardest in the game to collect. To get it, you're going to need a Mini Mushroom. When you come across a part of the level where there a gray blocks over several pits, you'll see the top of a small pipe underneath. Wait for a rock to smash the blocks and then enter the pipe. Once inside, make your way through the maze to get the Star Coin at the bottom. Exit through the pipe on the left. The reason why this is a hard coin to get is because you have to make it all the way to the pipe in a state where its one hit and you're dead, and once you get the coin you must complete the level without dying. Otherwise you have to get another Mini Mushroom and do it all over again.
- The final Star Coin is not very far off from the second one. It is encased in a cage of brick blocks that can only be broken by the volcanic rocks. Wait for them to make an opening, then grab the coin.
- Jump on to the bridge of gray blocks and hit the first ? Block for a power-up.
- Carefully make your way across this bridge and you'll eventually come to the end of this challenging level.
World 8-Tower 2
- YouTube: World 8-Tower (Time: 4:40)
- You've got another cruise on the green block platform in this level. It's much more challenging this time around, so its time to put all of your skills to the test.
- Hit the first ? Block for a power-up.
- As a general tip in this level, stay towards the front of the platform. When it starts to rise up, jump on top of the first block. There will be times when the platform rises straight up, and if you're not on top of it, you wont be able to make it up with just a jump. Stay near the front will also help you avoid the firebars with having to actually think about avoiding them.
- You'll find your first Star Coin in between two spike strips up above. Grab it and then quickly make your way back to the front of the platform to be there in time for it to rise up.
- When the next Star Coin comes into plain view, jump off the green platform and on to the platform where the coin resides. Grab it, and then make your way to the right side to wait for the green platform to come back. When it starts rising up, jump on the top of the first block.
- Don't worry about the first spike ball that falls onto the platform. Just keep towards the front and it'll never hit you.
- The second spike ball however will hit you. Once you hear the ball start breaking through the blocks, move a little bit towards the back of the platform and get ready to jump over it as it comes down.
- The final Star Coin lies waiting to the left. Quickly jump on the ledge and grab it, then jump back to the green platform.
- The platform will start rising like an elevator once it reaches the area with the two spiked walls, so be sure you're on the first block when it starts rising.
- Jump to the right and enter the Boss Doors for your final showdown with Koopa Jr.
Boss - Koopa Jr. 10
- This is actually easier than the last one. The only thing to note is that there are fireballs on both sides of the battle field. But since you shouldn't be over the lava anyway, they mean nothing.
- Same deal as always. Jump over his dashes, throw the shell back at him, stomp when his belly is exposed, repeat two times.
World 8-Castle 2
- YouTube: World 8-Castle (Time: 2:47)
- You've made it to the final level! This first section is very straightforward. Just run to the right past all of the fireballs until you reach the door.
- Hit the two blocks on the right for a ? Switch and a power-up. Hit the switch to cause the room to rotate, making Mario walk on the ceiling. Enter the door.
- Make your way all the way to the right of this large room, making sure to avoid the flame jets and Dry Bones along the way. You'll eventually find a door that will take you to a new section of the level.
- Bait the huge Thwomp to crash down and then jump across while he floats back up.
- Hit the brick block that is second from the right to cause a ? Switch to appear. Make your way around and hit the ? Block for a power-up before hitting the ? Switch to once again flip floor and ceiling.
- Exit through the door on your left.
- This time, head all the way to the left of this large room full of flame jets and Dry Bones. At the very end you'll find a lone brick block that contains a ? Switch. Hit the switch to cause a platform to appear beyond the wall to the left.
- Now head back to where you see the Dry Bones. Jump to the ledge above and duck slide under the flame jet to reach the door.
- Head to the right past the three Thwomps. Once you make it past the third one, jump to the left once the Thwomp goes down again, jump over the spikes and get the first Star Coin over on the left. Head back to the right once you've claimed it.
- Head down past the Dry Bones and hit the brick block on the left for a power-up.
- Continue down the steps to your left, but hit the second pair of brick blocks that you see to find a ? Switch. Hit the switch the flip the floor and ceiling again.
- Head back up and to the right, entering through the door at the end.
- Jump to the platform on the left and ride it up to reach the door.
- Run to the right to collect the second Star Coin and then exit through the door up top.
- Take a couple of steps to the right and you'll reach the half-way marker. Hit the upcoming ? Block for a power-up.
- These next three upcoming sections need to traversed in a specific way to reach the end. In the first area with two sets of dark gray blocks, run across the bottom and you'll hear a chime.
- In the second area, run across the top path and you'll hear another chime.
- Finally in the third area, run across the middle path to hear one final chime.
- The final Star Coin will be in plain sight as you work your way to the right. To get it, break the blocks, then run to the edge of the platform on the right and run across the gap, pressing down as you land to slide through the small opening.
- Once you get the coin, jump to the right and you'll reach the Boss Doors for the final boss.
Boss - Bowser and Koopa Jr
- You should have faced both of these guys enough by now to know what they're capable of.
- You first priority should be to get rid of Koopa Jr. If you have a fire flower, just run to the left side of the battlefield and pelt him with fireballs until he's gone. Otherwise, just use the tried and true method of hitting him with his shells and then stomping his belly.
- Bowser has two types of fireballs that he'll shoot at you, both equally slow and easy to avoid. The blue types will home in on you and the orange ones will just move straight.
- Defeating him is the same as before; when you see him jump high up, run underneath and hit the switch on the right.
- Once Bowser falls, the Princess will be saved and you'll have completed New Super Mario Brothers! Congratulations!
