The New School is a university in Manhattan, New York, then is comprised of eight schools.Official Site: About The New School On April 10, 2009, police stormed one of the New School's campus buildings after protesters caused a disruption by proclaiming that they had taken over the building. The protesting students were calling for the resignation of the university's president Bob Kerrey.
A total of 19 protesters were handcuffed and arrested. Some witnesses claimed that the arresting officers were harsh and used tear gas and pepper spray on the students. On the morning of April 10, 2009, a group of student protesters draped a large banner reading "New School University is Now Occupied" from the side of a campus building. Police broke through doors to get to the students and 19 were arrested. Some witnesses told the New York Daily News that the policemen manhandled the protesters. One witness claimed that an officer shoved a young man onto the ground and "beat his head into the pavement." Another witness said pepper spray and tear gas was used on the students.
