New Passport Rules

  • Fast Facts:

    1. Until 9/30/07: U.S. citizens must have a government issued ID card and proof of passport application to fly back from Mexico, Canada or the Caribbean
    2. After 9/30/07: U.S. citizens must have passport in hand to re-enter the country by air
    3. Until summer 2008: U.S. and Canadian citizens may enter U.S. by land and sea with an ID such as a driver's license, or a passport
    4. Summer 2008: Passport card implemented to allow travel between U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean
    5. U.S. passports issued by end of 2007: 18.4 million (projected)
