    On November 16, 2009, the Saints beat the St. Louis Rams 28-23 to remain unbeaten at 9-0. Injuries to the secondary mounted when starting cornerback Tracy Porter went down with a knee injury. Porter was rumored to have a season-ending torn ACL.

  • 2009 Season

    On Friday, August 14, 2009, the Saints beat the Cincinnati Bengals 17-7 in week one of preseason NFL action in a game at the Louisiana Superdome. In week two of preseason action, the Saints beat the Oakland Raiders 45-7. The Saints beat the Detroit Lions 45-27 in week one of the regular season on Sunday, September 13, 2009. Week two saw the Saints beating the Philadelphia Eagles 48-22.

    In week three action, the Saints were on the road at Buffalo. They won 27-7.

    In week four of regular season NFL action, the Saints hosted the New York Jets in a battle of undefeated teams in the Superdome. The Saints beat the Jets 24-10, advancing to 4-0 on the season.

    Week six saw a battle of unbeatens as the Saints hosted the New York Giants. The Saints beat the Giants 48-27 in the Superdome.

    The Saints were on the road at Miami for week 7 NFL action. After trailing by three touchdowns through halftime, the Saints rallied, putting 43 points up in the second half of the game to win 46-34 and remain undefeated.

    The undefeated Saints took on division rival the Atlanta Falcons at the Superdome on November 2, 2009. The Saints beat the Falcons 35-27 to go 7-0 on the season.

    On November 8, 2009, the Saints beat the Carolina Panthers 30-20 to go 8-0 on the season for the first time in franchise history.

  • Early Years

    It was announced on November 1, 1966 that the NFL had awarded the city of New Orleans a professional football team. The Saints played their first season in 1967 at Tulane Stadium. The first several years were less than successful for the franchise, finishing with far more losses than wins each season.
  • Move to the Superdome

    Following the 1974 season, the Saints moved to their own stadium, the Louisiana Superdome. It was not until 1979 that the team broke even, finishing with eight wins and eight losses. The following year the Saints earned only a single win, causing fans to rename the team the "Aints" rather than the Saints.
  • Success, Finally

    The Saints finished the 1987 season 12-3, after the season was shortened due to a labor strike. For the first time in the history of the franchise, the Saints earned a playoff spot. The Saints, however, lost the wild card game to the Minnesota Vikings, 44-10. They returned to the post season in 1990, 1991 and 1992, but again lost all three wild card games.
  • 2000 Season

    The Saints finished the 2000 season 10-6, first in the NFC West. They entered the playoffs and won their first post season game ever, the wild card game over the St. Louis Rams.
  • Saints vs Hurricanes

    The mass destruction from Hurricane Katrina affected the New Orleans area and the Saints. The Superdome was used as temporary shelter for residents and suffered severe damage from the storm and the occupants. The Saints used the Alamodome, Tiger Stadium and Giants Stadium for their home games during the 2005 regular season. The Superdome was repaired and the Saints returned home for the 2006 regular season.

    With Hurricane Gustav making landfall in southern Louisiana on September 1, 2008, the team fled to Indianapolis to wait out the storm before returning to play their home opener on September 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.SI: Saints set to take hurricane refuge in Indy

  • Staying in New Orleans
