Bloomberg Japan reported a rumor on April 11, 2008 Nintendo may announce a new Nintendo DS model at the 2008 E3 Convention. Speculation of a new model was triggered by Hirokazu Hamamura, the president of the magazine publishing company "Enterbrain", during a seminar he was hosting. It was not initially clear at the time of his statement, however, whether Hamamura had specific information to back up his statement. It was also unclear as to whether he was referring to a completely new piece of hardware or simply an update to the preexisting model. A few days later, Nintendo PR denied any knowledge of a new model or upcoming enhancements. IGN has since reported that Hamamura actually stated that gamers should pay attention to the Nintendo DS in the future, and was looking forward to E3. According to IGN, there was no mention of a new model. To further clarify, Hamamura now states it is unlikely that Nintendo will release a new model.
