Diane Denish, the Lt. Governor, failed in her bid for governor to replace Bill Richardson. The governorship was won by Republican Susana Martinez.
The House seat for District 1 was won my Heinrich. Republican Pierce won the 2nd district's House seat, while Democrat Lujan won the District 3 seat. Secretary of State was won by Republican Dianna Duran who beat out Democratic incumbent Mary Herrera. The treasurer seat and auditor positions were held by incumbents James Luis (D) and Hector Balderas. New Mexico voters have approved a measure to establish scholarship programs for veterans and have denied a measure allowing county officials to maintain 3 terms in offers over the current 2 term limit. Other approved initiatives include an update language on ballots and property tax exemption for veterans organizations. Bonds were approved for senior centers improvements, library acquisitions and public schools.
