On February 28, 2008 it was announced that the Time Warner owned studio, New Line Cinema would close its doors as an independent studio and be merged with Warner Brothers studio.

- New Line operated as an independent studio for 40 years previous to this merger
- New Line will become a unit of Warner Brothers with separate development, production, marketing, distribution and business affairs teams
- Warner intends to have New Line focus on making films in genres where it has been successful in the past
