  • Four new designs of the Lincoln penny will be introduced throughout 2009 to commemorate the 200th birthday of the former United States President.

    On May 14, 2009, the second design was introduced in Spencer County, Indiana, Lincoln's childhood home.   • New Coin Designs

    The United States Mint unveiled four new penny designs on September 22, 2008. The coins celebrate the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth, each design focusing on one stage of the President's life. The mint also plans to issue a silver dollar commemorating the date.
