In the race for governor, Democratic incumbent John Lynch won out over Republican challenger John Stephen. Lynch was first sworn in as governor of New Hampshire in 2005, and 2010 marks his third reelection. New Hampshire History
New Hampshire was one of the original 13 colonies that entered the Union in 1788. Since 1884, it has maintained its allocation of four electoral votes. New Hampshire has participated in all 56 presidential elections. Although surrounded by "blue" states, New Hampshire has be a primarily a "swing state". From 1972 to 1984, the state has voted Republican. However, in the last four elections, it has voted Democratic. In 1992, 1996, 2004 and 2008, it voted for blue. In the past ten years, the state has voted for the overall winning candidate in the past 8 elections. In 2008, Barack Obama won by almost 9% over John McCain.
The towns of Dixville Notch and Hart's Location, New Hampshire, have been the first cities to cast their ballots for presidential elections since 1948. The towns cast their votes at midnight on Election Day. Obama won Dixville Notch with a vote of 15-6, and won Hart's Location with a vote of 17-10.

Hillary Gets Overwhelmed in New Hampshire
