The Hurricane of 1938
Sometimes referred to as The Long Island Express this hurricane formed off the coast of Africa in September 1938, this hurricane swelled to a Category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale then made landfall on Long Island directly south of New England as a Category 3 and caused 4.7 billion (est) dollars in damage to New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island
