  • The BBC, relying on unconfirmed reports, initially reported that six gunmen had been shot dead at New Delhi's International Airport after a shooting "incident." However, Indian police later said that no one was killed in the "minor" incident and the BBC later reported that the incident was only a "scare," perhaps caused by two large sounds heard at the airport.BBC News: 'Shootings' at Delhi Main Airport (December 4, 2008)
  • Airport Warning

One day prior to the "scare," airports in India had been put on alert for a possible hijacking or other terrorist action after several threatening emails were received. However, analysts traced the emails back to a server in Saudi Arabia, and did not believe the threats were related to the attacks carried out the previous week by a group calling itself the Deccan Mujahideen. In those attacks, at least ten gunmen paralyzed the city of Mumbai for days, killing at least 170 people and occupying the city's luxury hotels.
