  • In 1985, the Coca-Cola Company introduced a new product that they had developed called New Coke. It was in response to their wanning popularity and competition from PepsiCo. It was said to have a sweeter taste and less carbonation by some, but the end result was a consumer backlash that led to the product's demise in less than 3 months.
  • History

On April 19, 1985, it was made public that Coca Cola would be making an announcement the following day. Although it wasn't confirmed at that time, many believed, including PepsiCo, that a change had been made in Coke's formula.

On April 23, the product was officially released to the public. At first the product was received well, but due to Pepsi's anticipation of what the announcement would be, they were able to counteract the public's positive reception of New Coke.

On July 10 of that same year Coca Cola reverted back to their previous formula. Since then it has undergone several name changes, the most current being Coke.
