His rapid-fire cadence, soulful sound and energetic stage presence soon caught the attention of Universal Records, who eventually signed him. He released his debut, Country Grammar, in 2000 and it spawned the mega-hit single "Country Grammar (Hot...)," which propelled the album into a #3 debut on the Billboard 200.
