Necktie

A necktie (also known as a tie) is a long piece of cloth worn around the neck with a collard shirt. Ties are typically part of a suit or uniform and can be worn by both men and women. Ties are available in various styles and colors.

The Modern Tie

The necktie roots all the way back to the early 1600s and is still utilized today. After World War I, hand-painted ties became popular and by the time the 1960s came around, very colorful and exuberantly styled ties became common. Designers began to experiment with different patterns and colors. Ties began to take on a novelty factor in the 1980s. Very skinny ties were popular, followed by ties with pictures or jokes on them. Some ties were even made out of non-cloth materials like wood or plastic as a joke. Ties with cartoon characters are also relatively popular.
