It is generally played on a Friday, two days before the first round of the tournament, and features the 64th and 65th seeded teams. The winner of the game continues on in the tournament, facing one of the first seeded teams in the first round.
The play-in game of the 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament was played on March 17, 2009, at the University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio. The Alabama State Hornets fell to the Morehead State Eagles 58 to 43.
