The NCAA Division I hockey tournament involves 16 teams playing in four regions around the country with four schools selected to play in each location. The tournament field will be made up of six automatic qualifiers and 10 "at-large" teams to be chosen by a selection committee. The winners of the following conferences receive automatic bids: Hockey America, Hockey East, College Hockey America, Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference CAC, [[Western Collegiate Hockey Association"and the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. In each region, the teams will be seeded one through four, with the first seed playing the fourth seed and the No. 2 seed playing the No. 3 seed in semifinal games. The starting times will be announced after the tournament field is selected.
2010 NCAA Hockey Tournament
The dates and sites ares: Northeast Region, Worcester, Massachusetts, March 27-28; East Region, Albany, New York, March 26-27; West Region, Minneapolis, Minnesota, March 26-27; and Midwest Region, Fort Wayne, Indiana, March 27-28. Each of the four reginal winners advance to the "Frozen Four", to be played in Detroit Michigan April 8-10.
NCAA Hockey Tournament History
Boston University is the defending national champion, defeating Miami, 4-3, in overtime in last year's title. BU scored twice in the final minute of regulation to force overtime. It was the fifth title for the Terriers and first since 1995. Jack Parker is in his 37th season as BU's coach and is one of only three hockey coaches in NCAA history to win more than 800 games. Miami advanced to the final with a 4-1 win over Bemidji State and BU edged Vermont, 5-4, in the semifinals. 2009 NCAA Hockey Tournament Bracket
Boston University wins 2009 Frozen Four
Boston University won the 2009 "Frozen Four" in miraculous fashion. The Terriers scored two goals in the final minute of regulation before stunning Miami of Ohio, 4-3, in overtime to win their fifth national championship and first since 1995. It was the second straight championship for Boston, as Boston College won the 2008 crown with a 4-1 victory over Notre Dame.
