- 4:14: Memphis leads 56-49 - Rose with shot-clock winding down hits fall-away jumper off the window - It was originally a 3 but changed to a 2
- 4:51: Kansas trails 54-49 - Collins on the lay-in
- 5:10: Memphis leads 54-47 - Rose on the sweet scooping, double-clutching lay-in plus the foul, bonus is good - Memphis has taken the lead this half because, like KU in first half, Tigers are hustling to the loose balls and the offensive glass

For Kansas: 20-40 from the floor, 1-8 from 3-point range, 6-7 at the line, 25 rebounds (7 off), 8 assists, 9 steals, and 12 turnovers - SCORING: Arthur has 12, Chalmers has 11, and Rush has 8.
- 8:14: Memphis leads 49-47 - Rose knocks down the 3-ball from up top - Billy Packer of CBS has pointed out correctly on the telecast that the Jayhawks have gone to a box-and-one defense where they are playing man-to-man on Douglas-Roberts, forcing Rose to beat them. That last trey might just spark Rose out of his game-long funk.

Halftime
- At the half: Kansas leads Memphis 33-28
- Halftime Stats:
- For the Kansas Jayhawks: 14-27 (51%) from the floor, 1-6 from 3-point range, 4-5 at the stripe, 16 rebounds (5 off, 11 def), 6 assists, 6 steals, 8 turnovers. SCORING: Arthur with 10, Chalmers with 7, Rush with 6. FOULS: Arthur only player with 2.
- For the Memphis Tigers: 11-28 (39%) from the field, 3-10 from beyond-the-arc, 3-3 at the line, 11 boards (4 off, 7 def), 4 assists, 2 blocks, 3 steals, 5 turnovers. SCORING: Douglas-Roberts with 13, Dozier with 5, Dorsey has 4 and Rose only has 3. FOULS: 2 each on Dozier, Taggart, and Dorsey.
- ANALYSIS: The Tigers are off their game, not hitting the glass hard enough (only 11 rebounds in the half), not getting to all the loose balls, and shooting under 40%. Rose hasn't scored in more than 16 minutes and it shows. Kansas doing mostly everything right in the half, getting balanced scoring and spreading the floor by moving the ball effectively. The Jayhawks are showing great hustle and a great chin - Tigers were up 6 early and it looked like it was going to be a blowout, and Kansas responded solidly.
-
First Half
- 0:00: Half ends without another score - Poor clock management at the end of the half by the Tigers allows the Jayhawks to enjoy a 5 point lead at intermission.
- 1:02: TIMEOUT - Kansas

- 1:43: Kansas hasn't scored last minute has had back-to-back offensive rebounds to keep possession

- 3:50: TV TIMEOUT - STAT PACK: For Memphis: 11-26 (42%) from the floor, 3-8 from 3-point land, 3-3 from the stripe, 8 rebounds (3 offensive), 4 assists, 2 blocks, 3 steals, and 4 turnovers - Douglas-Roberts has 13 and Dozier had 5. For Kansas: 12-21 (57%) from the field, 1-4 from beyond-the-arc, 3-4 at the line, 13 rebounds (4 offensive), 6 assists, 4 steals, and 8 turnovers - Arthur has 8 and Chalmers has 7.
- 4:52: Memphis ties it at 28-28 - Douglas-Roberts heating up with jumper from the corner

- 6:02: Kansas ties it at 26-26 - Collins hits the floater
- 6:25: Memphis leads 26-24 - Douglas-Roberts with the triple from down town
- 7:08: Memphis trails 24-23 - Douglas-Roberts with a quick burst for the lay-in
- 7:25: TV TIMEOUT - Kansas showing good patience right now on offense, spreading the floor and trying to kick it down low to pick up 3rd foul on Dozier and/or Taggart and/or open it up for 3-point shots outside. Memphis a little too patient right now, and maybe there was more too Rose's illness yesterday.
- 7:55: Memphis trails 24-21 - Dozier hits the 3-ball from the corner pocket
- 7:59: Kansas leads 24-18 - Chalmers on the tip-in of his own miss

- 11:05: Kansas leads 15-13 - Rush scores on the driving lay-in
- 11:33: TV TIMEOUT - Odd that when Dozier picked up his 2nd foul, Calipari didn't take him out of the game, and he almost picked up his 3rd before halfway point of first half. Also odd that we haven't had a made 3-point field goal yet. He's got Taggart back in their with 2 fouls as well...
- 12:05: Kansas ties it at 13-13 Jackson hits 2 of 2 at line
- 12:05: Foul on Dozier - that's his 2nd for Memphis

- 15:36: TV TIMEOUT - Quick start for the Tigers at both ends - long arms in the passing lanes forcing early turnovers and second chances on offensive end
- 15:52: Kansas trails 9-5 - Rush on the tip-in
- 16:03: Another Kansas turnover
- 16:39: Memphis leads 9-3 - Rose on the baseline jumper plus the foul - bonus is good

Mahalo Staff Predictions

- Crief: I was impressed with Kansas for the first 16 minutes of their semifinal win Saturday night, and then they seemed to coast through the remainder of the game against North Carolina. I was impressed with Memphis for all 40 minutes of their win over UCLA, the team I thought would win it all. No one, not UCLA, not Texas, not Michigan State, has been able to figure out a way to slow down Chris Douglas-Roberts and/or Derrick Rose. "CDR" has been revving at a high RPM the whole tournament, and Rose to me looks exactly like what LeBron James would have looked like if he played one season of NCAA ball. More importantly, they have played great perimeter and interior defense, and have hit their foul shots. I have yet to see a game in this tournament where Memphis took their collective feet off of the gas pedal, and I don't think that will change tonight. I think Kansas has good quality depth, but at times (especially against Davidson in a regional final they tried to give away) the Jayhawks lose focus and drift around the court. If Memphis holds their own on the glass, it's their game to lose. Predicted Score: Memphis 78 - Kansas 68

- Dean: Well, it didn't work too well for ESPN's Dickie V the other night when he stuck with his pre-tourney pick of UCLA to make it to the championship game (Coach Bob Knight and the rest of the College Gameday boys picked Memphis)...so...I'm sticking with the team I picked after seeing them dominate in early tourney play, Kansas...despite a sneaking suspicion that the Tigers might be able to manhandle the Jayhawks in a lot of different situations that could prove devastating if Kansas isn't on top of their game from the onset.
- Memphis was my pre-tourney pick, and it's tempting to stubbornly predict that they'll finally beat down KU by the end of the game. But no, I'm going to stick with my assessment that Kansas has got it all: balance, brawn, and mad skills. Memphis is even bigger and stronger, and they can at least match the Jayhawks in the skill department when firing on all cylinders—which happens most of the time these days. But I think the media's favorite sticking point with Memphis, their foul shooting, might just do them in when all is said and done tonight... that's if the Jayhawks don't come out flat after expending all that energy holding off Carolina's comeback the other night. Predicted Score: Kansas 65 - Memphis 60
