  • The NBA Slam Dunk Contest is an annual competition held during the NBA All-Star Game. The contest allows players to showcase their abilities in an attempt to come up with the most spectacular and creative dunks.

    In the 2009 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, Nate Robinson defeated reigning champion Dwight Howard with 52% of votes to be dubbed the slam dunk champion. Other competitors J.R. Smith and Rudy Fernandez did not make it to the final round.

  • Event Rules

    Players commonly use a variety of props, making it more entertainment than a showcase of athletic ability. Each competitor is allowed two minutes to set up and complete their best two dunks.

    A five member panel, generally former players, judge the event. Starting in 2008, fans help select the winner, using text messages to vote.
