Naughty Bear follows the titular teddy in his ruthless and bloodthirsty quest for vengeance against his fellow bears. When the cute little inhabitants of Paradise Island decide to throw a party, it's fun for one and all--except Naughty Bear, the one bear not invited. Goaded by the other bears' callous disregard, Naughty embarks on a spree of mayhem that will leave the island covered with the fluff of his victims. Luckily for naughty--and tragically for the rest of the bears--the island is chock full of implements of violence. Before his brutal campaign is over, Naughty will set bears on fire, smash them with sledgehammers, slash them with machetes, and generally rip, rend, and eviscerate their little stuffed bodies. Which is nothing compared to the emotional toll Naughty will take on their once-sunny psyches.
Story
After taking his revenge for not being invited to the party, Naughty tries to go back to his regular, not-so-peaceful life. But circumstances just won't allow that. Wacky occurrences just won't stop happening on Paradise Island, and Naughty must constantly step in to set things right (or at least, return things to his own unique definition of what's right). Political rallies, oil drilling, zombie outbreaks, and an invasion of little green bears from space are only a few of the adventures Naughty will have to undertake in order to protect his way of life, which mostly revolves around the other bears' deaths.
Naughty's kill-crazy rampage will eventually bring him under attack by the fearsome force known as the Teddy Bear Police. When even these softened veterans can't stop him, the Teddy Bear Ninjas will descend, pursuing Naughty like the relentless, huggable assassins they are. After that, everything from zombie bears to alien bears will show up. It will take all of Naughty's cruel cunning to outsmart his enemies and finish his quest for vengeance.
Gameplay
Naughty Bear works on a unique system of scare-based points. that means that the more gruesome, horrible and unexpected an act of violence is, the more points you'll garner from it. A maniacal sort of ingenuity will be necessary to reach the highest levels of terror. Why simply slash a bear's head off, when you could crush him up in an industrial mixer? Why just beat him to death, when you can grind his face off on a DJ's turntable? The opportunity for mayhem is off the charts, and the only limit to the destruction he can wreak is Naughty's own twisted imagination.
Naughty Bear is structured to give players the maximum amount of freedom and customization when it comes to the gory details. Implements of mayhem are everywhere, and it's up to you which you want to use, and when, and on which unsuspecting teddy. A huge number of possible paths are open, and the most creative, terrifying and emotionally scarring kills will get you the most points, unlocking new and better weapons, areas and victims. Naughty Bear will stop at nothing to teach his fellow bears the meaning of respect, and the potentially devastating dangers of even the most commonplace elements of their environment.
The Basics
Naughty Bear operates on its own system of "Naughty Points", which it awards for virtually every action or event that occurs in the game. The object is to rack up as many points as possible on each level. Some levels make getting points their primary objective, but most have other criteria for advancing. Even in levels where points don't directly affect success, however, you'll want to get as many as you can. That's because the levels themselves are unlocked through points. At a certain point, it's impossible to progress further in the game without garnering some serious points in quite a few of the earlier levels. High point totals also unlock Naughty's wide assortment of hats and costumes, which alter his stats and equip him with various weapons.
Trophies
In each level, it's possible to succeed with getting a trophy, but doing so will add nothing to your effort to progress through the game. To unlock new levels, you'll need to get either a bronze, silver, gold, or platinum trophy. Trophies are awarded based entirely on points (assuming you finish the level). Exactly how many points you need to gain each type of trophy varies from level to level, and takes into account the other criteria of the stage. For example, a level with a time limit will have a lower benchmark for each type of trophy than one in which you're allowed to take your time.
Gaining a trophy also gives you one each of all the trophy types below it. So getting a gold trophy will also add a silver and a bronze to your accomplishments, and getting a platinum will add one each of all four types. Once you've gotten a particular trophy on a particular stage, however, you can't get that precise trophy again. So if you get a silver trophy on a given stage, going back and getting another silver will do you no good. But returning to the same level to get a gold trophy will get you not just a gold and bronze, but also another silver trophy. Returning again and getting the highest trophy, the platinum, will get you yet another silver, in addition to all the other types.
You can return to levels as many times as you want. Before you're done, you'll likely have to play the same levels many times over. So as you make your way through each level, keep your eyes peeled for new opportunities for mayhem, even if you don't plan to take advantage of them at the moment. No level requires you to get platinum trophies, but most of the later ones will require quite a few gold ones. Even if you already have a gold trophy on a particular stage, therefore, it might be worth returning to it to try for a platinum, since this will add another gold to your trophy case.
Naughty Points
The only way to earn trophies, and thus progress through the game, is to rack up Naughty Points. Luckily, almost everything you do will add to your total. But to really score big, you'll have to use a little planning, or at least some improvisation. Killing bears, scaring bears, trapping bears, slapping bears; it all adds to your point total. But to get the most out of your hard work, you'll want to take full advantage of the game's preferences. Here are a few rules of thumb to keep in mind:
- Do it in Public: Anything you do in the game--scaring a bear, smashing his head into a TV, snapping his neck while he's stuck in a bear trap--will net you many more points if other bears see it. You'll get points from the deed itself, as well as from the reactions of the bystanders. To really be effective, an act of brutality should be shared with the whole world. This goes not just for the act itself, but for its aftermath as well. Injured bears, insane bears, dead bears; all remain in place for the duration of the level, or until you deal with them. Any bear that stumbles upon them will react badly, and that means more points for you. It's often a good idea, therefore, to set traps and dispatch bears in front of the windows of a room where several bears have congregated, and in other high-traffic areas. Another good idea is to move a frightened or crazy bear into a large group before finishing him off. That way, you'll get points for the other bears seeing the state he's in, as well as for them witnessing the kill itself. For Invisibility challenges (see below), disregard everything in this section. Since getting spotted will cause you to fail the level, it's obviously not a good idea to do your dirty work where everyone can see you. Luckily, the game adjusts the points needed for each trophy type to this fact, so your stealth won't keep you from moving forward.
- Keep the Meter Running: The sliding scale at the top center of the screen is your Naughty Meter, which multiplies however many points you earn for a particular act by whatever number is currently on the meter--from an unhelpful 1 to a very helpful 100. Obviously, the difference between multipliers of 50 and 100 is significant; that between either of these and a mere 2 or 5 even greater. Your meter increases whenever you hit, scare, or otherwise interact with anything in your environment, and decreases when you're not doing anything destructive. Chopping a bear to bits with an axe will bump your meter up, but so will smashing a tea cup. Use your environment to keep your meter reasonably high, even when you're not actually attacking anyone. Smash statues and stomp frogs on your way to and from more significant events so that when you get there, you'll get a good healthy multiplier for your troubles. The glowing blue items spread around the levels are important in getting the most out of your Naught Meter. They freeze the meter in place immediately, halting its almost-constant decline. As long as the effect lasts, the meter can only go up, never down. This makes reaching the maximum multiplier of 100 surprisingly easy. Try to time picking up the glowing blue items with your plans for the bears in each level. Don't grab it and then just sneak around, wasting its effects; wait until you're ready to pounce, then grab it and watch your meter, and your Naughty Points, skyrocket.
- Be Efficient: Get the most out of every bear you encounter. Never use a simple kill when you can do an Ultra-Kill. Don't finish off a bear before you've exposed him to as many psychological traumas as you can inflict. Remember, every time a bear sees something wrong--whether it's a broken toilet or a massacred comrade--you'll get points from his horrified reaction. Keep bears alive for as long as you can, so you can get as many points from them as possible. Balance that against keeping your meter high. It may be a better idea to finish off a bear, then quickly move on to another, rather than letting one roam free while your meter goes down. Use your best judgment to get as many points as you can from each individual bear.
- Mix it Up: The game rewards creativity--if that's the right word--amidst the mayhem. If you finish off a bear with a baseball bat, try to find a new weapon before taking out another enemy. You'll get more points from changing your tactics than you will from sticking with the same method through an entire level. Sabotage as many different environmental features as you can, so that you can inflict as many different scare tactics and kill methods as possible. Since many bears carry weapons, especially once the destruction begins, you can often swap whatever weapon you used to kill a bear with whatever one he's holding, allowing you to vary your modes of execution.
- Dress for Success: As you move through the game, you'll unlock new hats and costumes for Naughty to wear. The new duds aren't just fashionable, they also alter Naughty's stats, adding to his speed, strength, health, and other attributes. The costumes go one better, allowing you to blend in with the other bears--until you start ripping them to shreds, that is. Also, each costume comes with its own starting weapon. Costumes are especially helpful for Invisible challenges, but they're useful for every level. Try to match the benefits of your costume to the requirements of the level. For example, the Master Naughty outfit--an improvised ninja suit--increases your speed tremendously, but lowers your health. It also includes a powerful and fast ninja sword. This makes it ideal for Speed challenges. You'll want a costume that ups your health when going into a Top Hat challenge. Increasing your strength won't do you much good in a Friendly challenge. Try out various costumes, and find what works best for you.

Left Stick: Move
Right Stick: Adjust Camera; Do your best to keep the game's rebellious camera in line.
Left Trigger: Boo!/Super-Scare; Use your Boo! to put the fear of Naughty into your prey. You can chain this with other moves to create big combos and keep your Naughty Meter rolling. Use Super-Scare on unsuspecting bears, gaining you points and eventually driving them insane.
Right Trigger: Fire Gun/Ultra-Kill; Shoot bears from a distance to wear down their health. When prompted, use your Ultra-Kill to put bears down with style, and get yourself some major Naughty Points.
Left Button: Sprint
Right Button: Aim Gun
X: Hit; Use whatever weapon you're holding on a nearby bear.
Y: Dodge
B: Put Down Weapon/Arm Trap; Set devious traps for your enemies.
A: Pick Up/Sabotage; When near a working machine, sabotage it to freak out the bears and tempt them to repair it.
The Island
Your home, Paradise Island, is teeming with bears, and also with opportunities for putting those bears out of your misery, and their happiness. The island is divided into four main sections, and there are multiple environmental features in each, usually a few major features and a lot of minor ones. In each level, you'll move through several areas, racking up as many points as possible in each. Which areas you cover, and in what order, will vary, but the basic features of each will remain essentially the same, so getting to know the various sections of the island is essential.
- Naughty's Hut: This small area is Naughty's home, and any bear that invades it does so at his own risk. Early in the game you'll usually begin a level here, but later on Naughty's hut will sometimes show up in the middle of a level. You'll return to the hut at the end of each level, but you'll never actually play here to finish a stage. There are only a few features of Naughty's Hut that need to be kept in mind: The toilet inside the hut is handy for sabotaging; the fire outside is good for destroying items; and the statue of the Uni-bear is good for smashing, which will give a nice boost to your Naughty Meter.
- The Bakery: This large includes a slew of machinery which can be sabotaged. when bears attempt to repair it, you can swoop in and execute them, or give them a Super-Scare. Look for multiple conveyor belts, and a large industrial mixer. Both the bakery and the disco are sizable areas, so you'll want to keep an eye on your radar to make sure the bears aren't getting into anything you don't want them to.
- The Disco: Where the bears go to party, and, with Naughty on the loose, to die. You can use the turntable in the disco's main room to lay down some of your custom beats, using other bears' heads as convenient instruments. Like the bakery, the disco is fairly large. Don't let bears wander off when you want them nearby, and don't let them get too close when you'd rather have them at a distance.
- The Clubhouse: Often the final area in a level, the clubhouse is a relatively intimate place. Its small size presents a variety of issues, all of which you'll have to reckon with at one point or another. For one thing, the boat dock is right near the action, so any bear that takes it into his head to try to escape doesn't have far to go. Of course, this works both ways, cutting down on the time required for you to reach the fleeing bear. Also, since the bears will necessarily be in a fairly tight group when in the clubhouse, getting major points is relatively easy. Remaining invisible, though, isn't. Also, it's easy to get stuck in the middle of a large group of angry bears here, somewhat harder to get out again.
Common Features: All of the areas except Naughty's Hut share some features, all of which you should be aware of. Keep these hazards and opportunities in mind when on a killing spree.
- Phones: Bears will often try to call for help when the fluff hits the fan. If they succeed, you'll have to deal with the police, or even the military. A new infusion of potential victims can be a good thing if you're trying to rack up points, but you don't want to allow any unauthorized invasions. You can sabotage phones; bears will often try to repair them, letting you sneak up and either scare of kill them. You can do either while they're actually using the phone as well.
- Escape Vehicles: Keep an eye on the car and boat found in each of the three larger levels. Bears will often try to flee in one or both of them. If they get away, the best you can hope for is more bears to arrive. If the "No One Escapes" requirement is in effect, allowing a bear to get away will automatically end the level. You can destroy the car, and sink the boat. Or you can use them as bait, waiting for a bear to try to escape before moving in for either a Super-Scare or an Ultra-Kill.
- Other Features: Each level provides a wealth of smaller environmental features which can be sabotaged, luring bears in to repair them. Toilets, barbecues, refrigerators, outdoor power sources; all can be sabotaged, and all provide unique scares and executions.
- The Woods: Every level includes a surrounding fringe of woods, where Naughty can go to hide. Standing still when in the woods will cause Naughty to raise a leaf over himself, making him effectively invisible to almost every type of bear. Walking slowly through the woods will maintain the invisibility, but running will give his position away. Most types of bears won't pursue Naughty into the woods, but some (see below) will. Also, if you're spotted, bears with guns won't hesitate to fire at you, even when you're in the woods.
The Bears
Your neighbors and victims, the teddy bears of Paradise Island, are a fluffy, huggable bunch, but they can also be violent when provoked, and over the course of the game you'll be doing quite a bit of provoking. Most basic bears, in most levels, will start out unarmed, and grab the nearest weapon when trouble starts. This doesn't hold true in the Top Hat challenges (see below) that end each episode, though; here all the bears are heavily armed and ready for action. In addition to the basic bears, there are a few special types of bears you'll encounter, at least one type in each of the seven episodes. There habits, attributes and weaponry vary, but they all go down if you hit them hard enough.
- Police Bears: Early in the game, if a bear successfully calls for help, the fluffy five-oh will roll in, and try to take down the violent offender (you). Armed with revolvers, but otherwise not much more dangerous than the basic bears, the police bears can actually be useful, when you need more warm bodies to rail on.
- Ninja Bears: Quick and cuddly, ninja bears are dangerous opponents. Unlike most other types of bears, ninjas aren't shy about pursuing you into the woods. They won't lose sight of you even when you're hiding, and will run straight at you and attack. The swords they carry are fast, powerful weapons. You'll want to get your paws on one when you can.
- Military Bears: The hug army may carry handguns or machine guns. Either can be dangerous to Naughty, and either can be taken off the body of a dead soldier and used in your campaign of mayhem. Military bears generally stick together, making them dangerous, but also increasing your opportunity for mass horror.
- Zom-Bears: The bodies of recently deceased teddy bears are returning to life to feed on the flesh of the living. So... Zom-Bears are slow, but relentless. Once they see you, they'll follow you into the woods if they have to. They generally move in hordes, so try not to get surrounded. Zom-Bears also have the unfortunate--fortunate, for you--habit of attacking every living bear on the island, not just Naughty. Best of all, you get the credit for everything they do, and everything the other bears do to them in defense. That means that by luring the two sides into contact, you can score big-time points.
- B.E.A.R.: The S.W.A.T. team of the island (get it?), B.E.A.R. units are equipped with silenced pistols, very useful in inflicting damage without alerting nearby bears. Their body padding makes them significantly tougher than the basic bears, but also lets you pump up your Naught Meter further with simple attacks, before eventually finishing them off.
- Ro-Bears: The height of teddy bear technology, Ro-Bears are tough, but not particularly bright. They'll take a licking before they stop ticking, but an Ultra-Kill works just as well on them as it does on the fluff-and-fuzz bears. Ro-Bears sport heavy mechanical fists--for punching--that you can pick up and use after they're deactivated.
- Alien Bears: These strange visitors from beyond the stars bring menacing new technology with them, in the form of their deadly ray guns. Dangerous when in their hands, devastating when in yours. The alien bears came to Paradise Island with a simple dream of enslaving and destroying all bear-kind; and this is how it must end?
Challenges
Some levels will impose criteria for advancement beyond simply raining pain down on your fellow bear. There are several types of special challenges, each carrying its own rules, and its own threat of failure. You'll have to adjust your strategy and tactics accordingly. All levels end with a final stage, which requires you to punish a particular target bear, in addition to any other guidelines in place.
- Killer: In Killer challenges, there needs to be, as you'd expect, a bit of killing. More precisely, you'll need to eliminate every single bear in each area before moving on to the next. Any new bear that arrives during the course of the area--such as when police of military bears get called in, or when new zom-bears or aliens appear--will instantly be added to the total required kill count. That means, don't let more bears show up unless you're ready to deal with them. there are endless possibilities for mayhem in Killer challenges, and you should explore them all.
- Invisibility: Invisibility challenges require you to remain unseen over the course of your spree. A certain amount of points are required to advance. Early in the game, you'll want to stick to the woods as much as possible. Later, once you start unlocking costumes, you'll be able to walk around more freely; still, doing something Naughty in front of a bear will cause you to be seen. In Invisibility challenges, you can be seen a maximum of four times without failing; sighting five is strike three. This limit carries over from area to area, so if you're spotted four times in the first part of the level, you'll fail instantly with even one more sighting throughout the rest of the stage. Use environmental kills and traps to get points in Invisibility challenges. You can also fire a gun from the woods without being seen (as long as zom-bears or ninjas aren't present). This comes in handy when you have to kill a highly guarded target.
- Speed: You'll have to move fast in Speed challenges. A certain number of points is required to move on to the next area, and you only have so long in which to get them. The best strategy is to get the best weapon you can, find the biggest group of bears you can, and combine them, as violently as possible. There's no time for finesse in Speed challenges. The counter on the right side of the screen will tick off the seconds, all the way down to zero. If time runs out, you fail. Keep in mind that the timer represents your total time for the entire level, not just whatever area you happen to be in. Make sure to leave yourself enough time to finish the stage.
- Untouchable: Taking even one hit will cause you to fail an Untouchable challenge. This includes bullets, so be extra careful when the police or military are involved. Getting caught in your own bear trap also counts as a hit, and a particularly embarrassing way to fail a level. Try to hide whenever you can, and finish off bears quickly, to eliminate as many threats as you can. Even when hiding, if the bears are shooting at each other (as may be the case when zom-bears are present), you need to watch out for stray bullets. even if you're not the target, getting winged will lose the level for you. When all else fails, dodge enemy attack with the Y button.
- Friendly: Take down the bears, but don't hit them. Friendly challenges will force you to use more than brute strength to get the necessary points. Hitting a bear with any weapon, including guns, constitutes an automatic failure. There are still plenty of options open, though. You can still use traps, scare the bears, sabotage machinery, and execute injured or distracted bears. Ultra-Kills and Super-Scares are still totally fine, with the one exception of an execution while not holding any weapon. For this reason, you may want to carry a weapon with you, though it can be a strong temptation if you're not disciplined.
- Insanity: Make the bears insane, any way you can. Scare them, trap them, parade their suffering around in front of each other. Do whatever you need to, as long as you drive them nuts before killing them. Every bear in the area must be driven insane before you can move on. It's a good idea to scare already insane bears into killing themselves in front of the other, temporarily sane bears; this will only drive them bonkers faster. Also, remember that every busted thing the bears see--from windows to toilets to other bears--drives them just slightly closer to the edge. Break everything and everyone you can.
- Top Hat Challenge: Each episode ends with a Top Hat challenge, in which the enemies are tougher and better armed. Every area is like a final stage, in that one particular bear--whichever one is wearing the white top hat--needs to be taken out before you can advance. In addition, you'll have to reach a minimum amount of points. There are no other criteria for Top Hat challenges, except survival. These bears are tough, so survival isn't as easy as it sounds. For trophy purposes, the points needed are significantly increased, making Top Hat challenges poor choices for gaining trophies.

The game's first episode finds all the teddy bears of Paradise Island frolicking off to a birthday party--all of them, of course, except Naughty Bear. He'll be in the woods, stalking his prey. The points required to advance are not demanding in this first section of the game, so use its missions to get used to the game. remember to stick to the woods to prevent detection, and to follow all the criteria needed to successfully finish each section.

It's the campaign season on Paradise Island, and the leading candidate for mayor is running on a strict no-Naughty-Bear platform. Teach him and his cronies a lesson they won't soon forget (because they'll be dead). For some reason--probably because they couldn't fit them in anywhere else in the game--deadly Ninja Bears act as the potential mayor's bodyguards. They're quick and dangerous, and they'll follow you into the woods if they have to. Take them out as early in the round as you can, so you can concentrate on the lesser, civilian bears.

That's an adorable but unacceptable violation of his civil rights, and he doesn't intend to take it. You'll have to fight through the military here. They can be tough, especially when they're all together in a group. try to isolate them, and pick them off one by one. The aliens have landed, and they're using their sophisticated technology to control the other bears. That will make killing them much less fun, so it's once again time for Naughty to take action. Beware the powerful space rays the aliens, and some of their slaves, are armed with. They'll drain your health in a few shots, so be ready to dive into the woods if you need to, and always know where your next piece of cake is located.
