National Margarita Day is an unofficial food/beverage holiday that is celebrated annually on February 22. On this day, fans of this refreshing alcoholic beverage celebrate by experimenting with new Margarita recipes, try making their own at home, or enjoy Margarita's at their favorite bar or restaurant.
Margarita's are made most commonly with tequila, triple sec and lime or lemon juice although there are several variations. Some other version of the traditional Margarita include the Pomegranate Margarita, Vanilla Margarita and there is even a Chocolate Margarita. Some prefer to line the rim of the cocktail glass with salt, while others prefer sugar. According to the tequila manufacturer Tequila Harradura, people consume 185,000 margaritas per hour, each day in the United States.http://www.nydailynews.com/lifestyle/food/2009/02/21/2009-02-21_tequila_february_22_is_national_margarit.html

Margarita History
Although there is no definitive answer to where the Margarita was first invented, according to Tequila Herradura, one of the oldest and most respected producers of tequila, a socialite by the name of Margarita Sames invented the drink at a party she threw at her home at a cliffside hacienda in Acapulco. According to Herradura she was experimenting with drink combinations when she came up with the margarita in 1948.FoodNetwork: National Margarita Day February 22 (February 20, 2009)
