• National Donut Day is an unofficial holiday that celebrates the popular ring made from dough known as the doughnut. The holiday is celebrated every year on the first Friday of June. In 2009, National Donut Day fell on Friday, June 5th.

• History

  The Chicago Salvation Army started National Donut Day in 1938 as a fundraiser. The Salvation Army was attempting to help the needy during the Great Depression. They also wanted to honor those who volunteered during World War I by serving donuts to soldiers in the front lines.
