National Coming Out Day is a homosexual rights and awareness day celebrated annually on October 11. National Coming Out Day is marked by assemblies, peaceful demonstrations, and marches, with the objective of raising awareness and acceptance of homosexuals and gay rights.

History
National Coming Out Day has its origins with the 1987 March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. 500,000 people participated in this demonstration. In February 2008, 100 activists met in Manassas, Virginia and decided that an annual day to celebrate coming out would be a positive thing. They decided that the anniversary of the March on Washington would be an appropriate day to celebrate coming out.
