  • Namibia is an Atlantic coast country in southern Africa. Its independence from South Africa was recognized on March 21, 1990. Namibia has a dry climate, and is occupied by swaths of the Kalahari Desert and the Namib Desert.
  • History

    The longest existing Nabimian ethnic group are the San, who have lived in the region for up to 20,000 years. The word "San" means "bushmen." The largest ethnic group are the Bantu-speaking Ovambo, who arrived much later. Namibia was a German colony between 1884 and 1915, then occupied by South Africa until the country was granted independence in December, 1988.
