NAFTA

The North Amercian Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), is a contract that creates tariff free trade between Mexico, Canada, and the United States. The agreement seeks to eliminate barriers to trade, while promoting market competition and investment opportunities between the participating nations.

Immigration

While the formation of NAFTA aided the movement of goods and services across the borders, the restrictions on the Mexicans and Canadians to the United States have increased. U.S. concerns with regards to drugs and terrorism have increased since the 9-11 attacks, and immigration policies have become more restricting as well. The border fence initiative is one example of how NAFTA's economic freedom has not yet been extended to the issue of migration.
