Nada Surf first gained fame from their 1996 hit "Popular" from the album High/Low, which received heavy radio play. However, when they couldn't recapture the success of that track, the Brooklyn-based rock band was dropped from their record company (Elektra) and looked to be branded with the dreaded one hit wonder label.
Nada Surf underwent a sort of indie renaissance when the released their third album, 2002's Let Go, which was praised by critics and won the band a slew of new fans, many of whom knew nothing about "Popular." Since then, Nada Surf released two more studio albums on high-end indie label Barsuk and toured to promote each one, steadily rebuilding their popularity and achieving new success.
