Naan is a flatbread similar to a softer pita bead. It is usually cooked in a clay oven called a tandoor. It can be used to scoop up other dishes, or eaten on its own. Often, naan is stuffed with another food to create a dish of its own. Naan was first recorded around the year 1300, by Amir Khusrau, as a dish cooked at the imperial court in Delhi. It was also a common breakfast food. Check out Mahalo's pages on Indian Food and Tandoori Cooking.
