N.W.A.

N.W.A. was a controversial rap group from Compton, California who emerged in the late 1980's. The group released their groundbreaking album, Straight Outta Compton in 1988. N.W.A. are credited with creating the sub-genre known as Gangsta Rap. In 1995, founding member Eazy-E died at the age of 31 from complications due to AIDS. Dr. Dre and Ice Cube have continued their careers as successful solo artists.

In 2009, Entertainment Weekly reported that New Line Cinema was developing a film about N.W.A. called Straight Outta Compton. Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy E's widow are credited as the film's producers.The Boom Box: N.W.A. 'Straight Outta Compton' Biopic in the Works (March 9, 2009)
