Myrtle Beach is a coastal city in South Carolina and one of the most popular beach destinations in the United States, attracting millions of tourists every year to its shores, restaurants and attractions. It is located on the Grand Strand, a series of beaches spanning South Carolina to North Carolina, and borders North Myrtle Beach.
History
Myrtle Beach was home to the Waccamaw people until settlers arrived during the American Revolution. The area, however, was sparsely settled until the late 1800s, when Joe Mercier decided to turn it into a tourist destination. In 1938, the town was founded, named after the wax myrtle. It steadily grew in size and stature until it became the well-known tourist spot it is today.
Main Attractions
Myrtle Beach, of course, has many resorts and beaches, but there's plenty to do offshore too.
