Myron Cope was a sports journalist who, for 35 years, was the voice of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is also known as the creator of the Terrible Towel. Cope was a lifelong Pittsburgher, receiving his education from Taylor Allderdice High School and the University of Pittsburgh. By the age of 22 he was already working for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and was able to freelance with articles published in both Sports Illustrated and the Saturday Evening Post. His most notable piece was a profile of sportscaster Howard Cosell, which was selected by Sports Illustrated as one of the greatest articles they've ever published. In the 60s Cope was given a radio show on WBGG, from there he was offered a job as part of the Steeler's Radio team in 1970 where he remained until his retirement in 2005. Cope died on February 27, 2008 at the age of 79 of respiratory failure.
