Mutts and Moms

Mutts and Moms is an all-volunteer organization that takes in post-lactating mother dogs (as well as injured or sick dogs), cares for them and finds them adoptive homes. All of the dogs are mutts as opposed to purebreds.

In 2007, talk show host Ellen DeGeneres was reprimanded by Mutts and Moms for giving away an adopted dog without first clearing it with the organization. DeGeneres and her partner Portia de Rossi had taken in a dog named Iggy only to find it did not get along with their pet cats. They violated a Mutts and Moms policy by giving the dog to a friend, and Iggy was confiscated by the organization.
