  • Plot Synopsis

Byham, who is writing a Tahitian dictionary joins a naval ship crew that is headed to Tahiti to get breadfruit plants. Captain Bligh is an abusive tyrant that meters out punishments to the crew in form of floggings. The abuse was so severe that at one point, a person died during the flogging and Bligh demanded that the rest of the prescribed blows still be delivered to the corpse. The crew reaches Tahiti and spends 6 months there, during that time some of the crew falls in love with Tahitian Women. The time to sail home has come and during the return trip, the ships' doctor is flogged to death. The crew and Byham plan and execute a successful mutiny. The captain and his few loyal crew are set adrift. The ship is now led by Fletcher Christian, who returns them to Tahiti. The overthrown Byham finds them and manages to capture some of them, who are then returned for a court marshall procedure.

"Despite the efforts of Producer Irving Thalberg, Director Frank Lloyd, three scenarists and $2,000,000 to give it balance, polish and direction, the picture lacks all three."Time Magazine http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,755337,00.html
