The group performed under the names Gothic Plague, Fixed Penalty, and Rocket Baby Dolls before settling on the name Muse.http://www.last.fm/music/Muse/+wiki

Career
After releasing two EPs independently, the group signed to Maverick Records and recorded their debut full-length album, Showbiz, with producer John Leckie (who had produced the Radiohead album The Bends).
They recorded their second album, Origin of Symmetry, but the label was worried that Bellamy's high, operatic vocals wouldn't go over well in the United States; after a conflict between the band and the label, Muse left Maverick and signed with Warner Bros. Records. With their third studio album, Absolution, Muse began their mainstream breakthrough behind singles like "Hysteria," "Stockholm Syndrome," and "Time Is Running Out."
Muse finally hit their stride with American fans when they released 2006's Black Holes & Revelations, yielding such hit singles as "Starlight" and "Knights of Cydonia."
In January 2008 the song “Knights of Cydonia” was voted number 1 on the Triple J Hottest 100, Australia’s biggest annual alternative music countdown.
In 2009, the band released a new album called The Resistance. The album contained the single “Uprising”, their first Top 40 pop hit in the United States and their first number one on the Billboard Modern Rock Chart.http://www.last.fm/music/Muse/+wiki
