Plot Synopsis
Brown returns from The Betty Ford Clinic as a recovering alcoholic to her post a a journalist at the news show FYI. The show follows the exploits of Brown, as she deals with being a single, career-oriented woman. During the run of the show, many issues are addressed, which critics feel ultimately detracted from the appeal of the show.
Criticism and Controversy
In the 1991 season, Brown becomes an unwed mother. Because of this particular storyline, the show was thrust into the spotlight after some critical statements from Dan Quayle. In the final season, the show tackled the issue of breast cancer. Controversy ensued when Brown uses marijuana to ease the effects of chemotherapy.
