History and Culture
The name Mumbai is derived from the Marathi pronunciation of the word, but when the British took power in the 17th century, the name changed to the anglicized pronunciation of "Bombay." Today Mumbai plays host to a large maritime economy and houses the headquarters of numerous multinational corporations. In addition, the Bollywood film industry, which is based in Mumbai, is one of the largest film industries in the world in terms of output. Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan are on the list of Bollywood's top stars. -
