Mugabe Sworn In

After an election regarded as a sham by most of the world, Zimbabwe's president Robert Mugabe was sworn in for his sixth term on June 29, 2008.

Regarding the election, Mugabe said in a speech, "We are not going to give up our country because of a mere X [on a ballot]. (June 17, 2008) Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai dropped out of the election after his supporters were beaten and killed. Mugabe's supporters, according to eyewitness reports and independent observers, allegedly forced many people to vote at gunpoint.
