  • MSNBC is a 24-hour cable news network founded as a joint venture by NBC and Microsoft. In 2005, NBC purchased a majority stake in the company, leaving Microsoft with 18%. Current notable programs include Hardball with Chris Matthews and Countdown with Keith Olberman. The network trails both CNN and the Fox News Channel in ratings.
  • Programming

MSNBC has undergone numerous programming shifts since its creating in 1996, but most recently, the network has focused on political coverage around the 2008 election. David Gregory was most recently added to the lineup in connection with election coverage, replacing Tucker Carlson. Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann are opinionated hosts of their own political commentary shows. Olbermann's opinions have come under fire, and he has been attacked for his liberal "special comments."
