"A poignant story of the joys and sorrows, the humor and pathos of middle-class family life in wartime England."—Herb Golden, Varietyhttp://www.variety.com/review/VE1117793293.html?categoryid=31&cs=1
"Franklin Roosevelt, who loved the movie, put pressure on MGM to release the film earlier than planned, but playwright Lillian Hellman's reaction is more reliable, when she told director William Wyler, 'Willie you have made a piece of crap.'"—Emmanuel Levy, EmmanuelLevy.comhttp://www.emanuellevy.com/search/details.cfm?id=578
