Mount Redoubt

  • Mount Redoubt is a volcano located about 100 miles southwest of Anchorage, Alaska. The volcano was on high alert during parts of January, February and March of 2009.

    On March 26, a major eruption sent ashes 65,000 feet high up in the air and the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) issued a warning for razor-sharp volcanic ash.msnbc: Redoubt Erupts (March 26, 2009) AVO had issued an alert level level of "orange/watch."     The 2009 eruption has resulted in the cancellation of several flights. It can cause injuries to skin, eyes and the breathing system and can also cause damage mechanical structures and engines of planes, cars and other vehicles.
